Final update on my uncle who barricaded himself in his house
This morning, after the police shot another 50 rounds of tear gas into his house my uncle came out at 4:00am. THank GOd this ended without him being dead! They took him to the hospital and he was violent all the way in the ambulance. Hopefully he will be in the hospital for a very long time and he will FINALLY Get the help he so desperately needs!

Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts and kind words of support.

You know, DU has been a tough place to be over recent months but the thing to remember is when you are in need EVERYONE is really here for you! Thank you so much guys!

Love to all
Robyn

7. First I've heard of your plight. Glad it worked out okay. Is there a history of mental illness or
is this some recent decline on his part? I'm assuming, since you say he needs help and not jail, that he's otherwise not the criminal type. A lot of us may not have seen any earlier posts. On the other hand, you sound exhausted, so your need to recover surely outweighs our need for more information. :)

What a horrible thing to happen. Surely the fact that he is dangerous to himself and to others will be taken into account. You and your family have my best wishes for the future.

10. I'm so glad the crisis resolved as it did.
This sounds like about the best possible outcome, given the original situation.

I'm sure you and your loved ones, especially your father, are feeling very relieved right now.

12. Thank heavens... Interesting that he was able to tolerate teargas
for so long. I wonder if that is typical of those suffering a mental "break."

I'm pleased this turned out as well as could be expected for you and your family.

44. My father is much better now
I got a call from him later in the day yesterday already back to his teabagging ways telling me about how great Sarah Palin in. I just kind of laughed and rolled my eyes this time. I didnt get mad because the man has been to hell and back over the last few days so. :)

no harm. I have a cousin who is schizophrenic and he has run-ins with the law. There just isn't the money needed to help people who suffer mental illnesses. No, there's enough $$$, just not the political will. Plenty of money for the war machine.

Robyn -

I wish your uncle the best as he gets the help he needs, and I hope for healing for your family. I've been through having a relative committed to inpatient care (though under different circumstances), and even though it can be a very tough thing to go through as a family, the rewards can be great, with proper treatment and support. Peace to you and your family.

47. I live close by and read the news.
Your family need to have your uncle institutionalized, even against his will. He had a past 4 hour standoff with cops in the 90s and a previous standoff with cops before that. The question that you family must ponder is will the next time involve him killing a cop, or killing an innocent passerby, or being gunned down. Your uncle lives near a major road in his town. When will he start to take sniper shots at passing motorists.
