The Log Cabin Republicans have responded to Cain’s comments today:

Herman Cain: ‘Show Me The Science’ That Being Gay Is Not A Choice

“If Herman Cain truly wants to see the science proving that sexual orientation is not a choice, Log Cabin Republicans would be happy to show it to him,” said Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director R. Clarke Cooper. “The claim that a person chooses to be gay or lesbian has been discredited by every major professional medical organization, starting with the American Psychological Association and the American Medical Association. An individual’s orientation is no more a choice than the color of his skin or whether he is left-handed, and too many people have been hurt because of failed attempts to change the way they were born.”

2. I don't think sexual orientation is a choice
But political affiliation certainly is, and I have to say that Log Cabin Republicans are deviant nutcases who pose a clear danger to our children and our country.

13. Deviant nutcases? How does that expression work?
Edited on Tue Oct-04-11 03:13 PM by HereSince1628
deviant, adjective, departing from usual or accepted standards, esp. in social or sexual behavior.

nutcase, noun informal a mad or foolish person.

It seems that you are saying something like they wouldn't be a usual type of mad, which raises the obvious question how does their madness deviate?

This is confusing because a person who departed from the usual standards of a madness might be UNmad, or at least more sane than mad, or they could be off the other end and be very much more mad than usual. This is quite ambiguous

Or it might not be that sort of thing at all, it could mean that they are sexual deviants who are mad. It's quite confusing, really. \

Is it possible that this is the kind of thing that can't be defined, but that I would recognize and know if and when I saw it?

5. Cain could easily prove his assertion:
He could simply choose to be gay for 24 hours, and then choose back. No harm in that, right? It's only one day.

Of course, when he says "well, *I* can't choose to be gay, but gay people can", he loses the argument :)

Think of all the free pizza he could bribe Christie with.

17. They had plenty to say but that was last week. Big gay world.
Their executive director is an Iraq Vet and he took that booing and the reaction to it to task with alacrity and clarity. "Santorum's divisive and homophobic remarks do not befit a commander in chief" is what Cooper said.

14. So, Mr. Cain. When did you "decide" to be straight? And since a "decision" was needed ...
which male were you attracted to that forced you to have to go ahead and "choose" one way or another?
Asshat.

15. Cain has not a lot of use for women either, other than as wombs.
He is radically "pro-life" and advocates that abortions should not be available to women under any circumstances, rape included.

Being a gay Republican is. As much as I agree with them, they're still fucking nuts.
