Surely some of y'all can explain if there's causation, in which direction, etc.

These fans (I know many -- this is Texas) run the gamut from middle-class retirees to wealthy to lower-middle class with gross differences in education, opportunity, and income. But they're ALL frikkin' soused. What's up with that?

1. Acouple of older friends became fans a couple years before being diagnosed with Alzheimers
Not sure if there's a correlation, but maybe a stronger desire for simple answers and black/white thinking is a sign of cognitive abilities declining?

5. Are you suggesting "location, location, location" may have something to do with your findings?

4. My parents are big fans...
Dad doesn't drink at all, Mom very rarely. So the correlation isn't 100%.

7. most people I know who are rightwing
have very low mental capacities. They know a lot about certain things, for sure, but they can't seem to process certain kinds of information related to socio-economic conditions. It might be too complex for them. They basically are close-minded about issues which run counter to their preconceived notions of the world.

8. I highly doubt there is a correlative or causal relationship

Alcoholism is a disease. Plenty of people suffer from said disease whether they are right or left, smart or stupid.

16. All the rush fans I know fall into 2 groups
Old bitter angry reactionaries OR Evangelical religious types. Not much crossover, other than lip service, in the interest in making their RW tent bigger.

Some drink, some don't.
