5. Well I've often seen it said that extralegal arm twisting
should take place to force Blue Dogs and Republicans to vote for or not filibuster a public option.

Suddenly the law matters. Interesting.

9. Really?
First of all, do you have any proof of that? Second, there is a huge difference between hyperbolic hyperventilation on a political chat board and dropping a drone missile on an actual human being.

About toughness and disregarding the law to get what you want, whether it be killing a terrorist or a public option.

Ordering a suspect to be killed doesn't make someone tough
Standing up to what you believe in is what defines toughness. I personally believe in the justice system, and the rule of law.

20. Killing an active, mass murdering traitor is certainly a legal act.
American law is quite clear.

This is equivalent to using snipers to take out a hostage taker. Or gunning down a John Dillinger.

If the fugitive is know to be armed-and-dangerous, to have used violence previously then the Rule of Law standards are quite different from ordinary apprehension of suspects.

This piece of shit was lucky to be taken out quickly.

42. Due process does not apply to all pursuit situations.
If the capture is practical, sure. Not for someone like this guy.

Since this guy had armed bodyguards, making a capture was impossible. Complaining about due process is bad faith argument.

Some presidents feel a need to speak loudly and carry a big stick or speak loudly and carry a small stick.

Obama's approach: speak softly and.....you're never really sure if he is carrying a big stick or a small stick.

30. That's not tough enough, he'll only be tough enough when he pushes for the construction of the new
50 State Coliseums, not only will the building of them create jobs, but once they're completed, everyone can enjoy a day with their families at the Coliseum watching those that the government decides has committed a wrong against the State, thrown to the lions or tortured, depending on their crimes or wrong doings. Imagine the excitement, of seeing those who deserve it, getting what's coming to them.......live and in person.......it don't get much tougher I tellz ya...........and until that happens, the government will never be tough enough for me........and if the government says someone did something, then they probably did......and even if they have to create some evidence, so what, they're still guilty aren't they? SARCASM Alert.

52. It wasn't about PR at all. I grew up with a conscience and was taught right from wrong.
And the fact is, I still know that difference.

This was a tough decision for President Obama to make, but he made the right decision because he is our leader.
He is our President.

Al-Alwaki declared war on this country, so I don't grieve over him suffering from the consequences of his actions.

that even here at DU, there's an "us vs. them" mindset against others in the same party.

In that vein, then I guess I'm one of the "them" also. The vilified ones. The ones who don't want Obama to be "tough" as much as hope he will do what's best for as many people as he can...not just a portion of the Democratic party that thinks it's got squatter's rights and also believes it knows better than he does how to do his job.

Eh. What can ya do...
