Bloomberg may shut down Wall St. protests
Edited on Fri Sep-30-11 12:47 PM by garybeck

Mayor Bloomberg made some ominous comments today about the ongoing Occupy Wall Street protests that have been going on for nearly two weeks in Zuccotti Park. When he was asked on his weekly radio show whether he'll let the anti-corporate protesters stay as long as they want, he responded cryptically: "We'll see. People have a right to protest, but we also have to make sure that people who don't want to protest can go down the streets unmolested."

...on edit.... i keep hearing this tiny voice in the back of my head asking,,, "is this the 60's about to start all over again?"....

5. "make sure that people who don't want to protest can go down the streets unmolested."
That is an interesting statement. Who's being "molested?"

Or, is he referring to banksters who feel inconvenienced by the peasants?

13. So far the only people we have seen molested are the protesters
and by HIS police. I do not think he can shut them down. Not if they are committed and growing. Not if more groups like theirs across the country begin appearing.

14. I would be careful, you might bring out more sympathizers to
the Protestors than you really want.

If your Wall St Buddies are pressuring tell them
to cool it. They might get much more than they want.

16. molested = accidentally hearing the truth
unmolested = censoring the truth so people going down the street don't accidentally hear it

17. Okay. We're past the "First they ignore you" bit, past the "laugh at you bit".
Now they're going to begin to try to fight us. But it's already too late. To actually stop this spreading movement would require a crack down guaranteed to scare even neutral bystanders, and create blowback.

When two directions seek prevalence, the older, dying direction might struggle...harshly. If it does, it is merely fuel for the fire, and proves the validity of the protest movement.

It has to be, or we are more monumentally fucked that it is nearly possible to imagine. All we have to do is keep up the good fight and it will get easier, and easier, and more and more obvious that we're onto something and going in the right direction.

24. LRAD was used in Pittsburgh for the G? protesters. There are very heinous weapons they have nowadays
paid for with our tax dollars. Iraq has been a great testing ground for the ptb.

I agree we have to keep fighting, but their weapons will make it quickly more deadly and destructive than we can imagine now. Easier and easier may not be completely realistic, imho.

I do believe we are quickly reaching the tipping point.

Mad world...

25. "people who don't want to protest can go down the streets unmolested."
I remember going to a town's yearly harvest festival more than once. It is wall to wall people elbowing and jostling each other. The jostling is not a deliberate thing, it just happens as people move from vendor-to-vendor because there are so many people literally shoulder-to-shoulder.

Why should a peaceful protest of shoulder-to-shoulder people be held to a higher standard than commercialized gatherings of vendors with permits from the local authorities?
