1. "God" would like to have it both ways. He orders killings of whole
nations, so he really has no credibility left in this respect. Just get rid of "God" for good. It is inhumane to kill, period.

3. You're wrong
"God" doesn't order killings of whole nations...men do it in "his" name.

"It's the will of God, we men are just his instruments on Earth"...often heard from the lips of men!!!

It isn't "God" that's the problem, it is those who covet their neighbors property and resources, who are the problem!

9. Well, if you believe that the Old Testament is accurate,
it was the deity itself that ordered many genocidal mass killings. Says so right in the book.

And then, there was Noah's flood, where the deity itself killed every living thing on the planet, except for one family and some animals. Or, there's Sodom and Gomorrah, which were wiped out by that same deity for being inhospitable to a couple of "angels." Or, you could look at Egypt, where the deity killed all the first born children, unless they were of the favored people who followed that deity's instructions.

No, the deity in question didn't mind if people killed other people, as long as it was by the deity's own direction, and boy, did the deity direct a lot of it.

If you believe the Old Testament, of course. I don't, at least not the parts that attribute this killing stuff to the deity's orders. But, hey, lots of people accept it as truth, so what do I know?

13. Not only that
He told Abraham to kill his own son just to see if he would really do it as some kind of fucked up loyalty oath.

15. We were told by Jesus to throw out the old Testament
those words no longer count. Or did I miss something.
Revenge is much better than "turn the other cheek?"
Forgiveness is so blase?

2. Bad translation in that commandment. Should be "murder" not "kill."
Since that deity supposedly ordered the slaughter of many in the Old Testament, it's clear there's no commandment against killing.

6. Heh.
Any time anybody points out anything bad in that idiotic book people say it's a bad translation.

How can a book that's been translated so badly be taken seriously for anything?

4. God is my co-pilot
but we crashed in the mountains and I had to eat him.

I find it ironic that the Bible toters and quoters are usually war mongers too.

8. Just more proof that there's no need for Hell.
We humans do a pretty good job of creating our own Hell right here on Earth.

11. Are we supposed to be upset about that execution?
It's so confusing being a good progressive at DU. Some of us are just as pissed about the extra-legal execution of al-Awlaki this week as we are about the totally by-the-book execution of Troy Davis earlier. But apparently, there are distinctions to be drawn between the killing of someone "everyone" knows was a bad guy and someone "everyone" knows was innocent, or at least not guilty enough to be executed.
