Protest activity in Kansas City -- Occupy the Federal Reserve Building
Tomorrow, Friday, 30 Sept an occupation of the Federal Reserve Building in downtown KC will begin at 9:00AM and last (as currently planned) until Noon, Monday, 3 Oct. For more information, go to: Occupy KC.

This is planned to be only Phase 1. Phase 2 is planned to start Oct 9. There are other protest activities planned for October; check the Occupy KC website for details.

1. Well, according to your link, they aren't actually going to try
to occupy the building...just the street near it. Attempting to occupy a federal building is not a great idea. Protesters who do that will absolutely be removed from the building, so I'm glad to see that isn't their plan.

3. I worked for a non-profit that often does protests
and we had some employees who occupied an Embassy. Not only did they get arrested and fined, but they were banned from DC for some time (I think a year).

Unless you really want to make a big statement, trying to occupy a Federal building really *isn't* a good idea.

4. Yup. Having occupied a few buildings back in the 60s, I know
it's something that needs careful thought and shouldn't be done casually. If you insist on staying after being told to leave, you will definitely be arrested and charged. Since the advent of the Patriot Act, such civil disobedience could be very costly to your freedom. I don't recommend it these days at all. Outside is probably OK, though, but it probably won't be allowed for long.

It all depends on the level of commitment of the protesters, though, and their willingness to make a statement by being jailed.

5. Giving the police free reign and the media a free ride to criticism isn't a good idea.
You win more friends with honey...
