4. Huckabee was NEVER a "butthead." His political perspective is wacky-nutty, but he, as a person,

was and is charming.

He is pleasant in his speech, and adapts the "disagree without being disagreeable" mode of communication.


Look, I drive a lot of old people around, old ladies, mostly, and they used to tell me that they LIKED Huckabee on a personal level, even when they didn't agree with what he was saying. They thought he was a nice guy, a pleasant fellow, someone who would help them into their car or open a door for them.

Christie isn't pleasant. He's the opposite of pleasant. He's abrasive, rude, snarky (though certainly adroit in his wit and sometimes funny--e.g. "Get off the beach") and he knows how to be a screaming asshole. Hard to know if he'd be a happier guy if he liked the way he looked. Could be.

10. No--these same ladies never liked George. They thought he was

a phony and they hated his posturing and Napoleon complex. They found him both MEAN and PETTY.

These are life-long Democrats I'm talking about, who watch a lot of tv. They're party line voters, but they often said that they found Huckabee PLEASANT.

And he IS pleasant. He doesn't get all screaming, yelling, spitting and in-your-face.

No one is saying his views are acceptable, simply that his conduct IS.

6. Actually I thought Huckabee looked better with the weight

I'd never heard of him until after he lost the weight. But I remember that during the primaries, the Club for Growth saturated the airwaves with attack ads against him - they showed a clip from back when he was chubby where he was talking about being ok with tax increases. I thought he looked better then. BTW, same thing will Al Sharpton. He doesn't look very good now.

I'm referencing the comment attributed to a wide variety of actresses, about having to choose between their face and their ass!

The downside of losing weight when older is that one's face falls a bit, and wrinkles are more noticeable.
