Gingrich Inc. wounded by presidential bid
By SHANNON McCAFFREY , 09.28.11, 04:34 PM EDT

ATLANTA -- A floundering presidential bid has fractured what was once a rock star Republican image. Not long ago, Newt Gingrich sat atop a lucrative political empire, the sought-after intellectual guru of the GOP.

Now, all but broke, he's traveling coach. His vaunted political operation, American Solutions, has gone under. And he's finding himself fighting for air time - if not respect - at Republican presidential primary debates. snip

Gingrich's top-tier campaign advisers fled the campaign en mass in June just weeks after Gingrich entered the race, furious with the candidate's laissez faire approach to the campaign, his high rate of campaign spending and the involvement of his wife, Callista. Campaign finance reports showed he was $1 million in debt; aides say he's still in the red but has retired about half that amount.

And his image - as well as his once lucrative business interests that collectively have been dubbed Gingrich, Inc. - has taken a huge hit after his campaign's early stumbles.

9. He is a perfect example of why new money dies broke
They seem to think high living is their entitlement, along with high maintenance trophy wives. Then they're surprised when the money runs out and the creditors take all the toys to auction off for at least part of the bills.

in the public eye and to bilk donors for money.

Like Palin and Christine O'Witchell, being a perennial candidate (or, in Palin's case, candidate tease) is how he maintains his celebrity and earns his living. By being "in the news," he gets to be in the news, and that makes it possible for him to make money in speaking fees and also by selling his crappy books and other merchandize.

He has to maintain a high public profile in order to earn a living, and running for office is the only way for him to do that.

It sounds as though his curent platinum-helmut-headed wife is a bit of a problem. She is obviously expensive as all get out, and she apparently exerts more control than is helpful, because by doing what she wants, he has alienated his staff and supporters and run up very high campaign expenses.

What will happen to poop Newt? Will he be forced to the back of the bus? Will he have to sit next to the toilet and get the occasional whiff of urine scented air up his nose? I'm really worried about the guy:sarcasm:

20. OMG...How the GREAT FALL.. It's that third WIFE...she's cleaned him out over Tiffany's Purchases!
Wanna bet she makes out like a bandit after she dumps him? Thought she'd ride him into the White House...with lots of perks and MORE MONEY to SPLURGE at TIFFANY's.

So sad...she's so young. But, then she does look a little too "perfect." She will deal and come out golden..golden.

25. All politicians should be required to fly coach
No first class, no business class, no private jets. Period.

Then the airlines will improve -- of course, in many cases, they will improve just for them.

I was flying the shuttle from DC to Boston. We were just ready to roll back, when they announced there would be "a slight delay." The plane was supposed to take off at 3 p.m. We sat there until 3:35. Finally, John Kerry waltzed in, took his seat in first class, and then we rolled back. The thing that burned my butt was that there was another plane at 4, but Kerry of course is too important to wait five minutes or so to board the next flight.

If they can lose it, then we can take it from them.

I don't care about the bankers in jail nearly so much as I want my money back.
