Hugo Chavez attempts to build political and economic bulwark against American imperialism

What Hugo Chavez Is Up To
Posted on Sep 28, 2011

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has been busy courting countries from Latin America to Eastern Europe to the Middle East to the Far East to assemble a political and economic bulwark against American imperialism.

In attempt to determine how serious Chavez is, freelance journalist Joshua Kucera traveled to Caracas to speak with political figures, analysts and diplomats allied with and opposed to the president. Because of U.S. support for groups that Chavez blames for much of Venezuela’s past troubles—like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund—“Step one,” Kucera confirmed, “is knocking the United States off its perch.”

Toward that and other ends, Chavez has thrown his full weight into the Bolivarian Alliance of the Americas, a trade-bloc alternative to the U.S.-backed free trade group, which is focused on poverty reduction rather than investment and commerce. Meanwhile, he has maintained associations with the heads of less savory regimes, such as the recently deposed Hosni Mubarak and Moammar Gadhafi. .........(more)

1. Good for Chavez and Venezuela.
It's about time the world stood up to U.S. imperialism.

2. The Bolivarian Alliance has been around for a while
I think it is mentioned in "The Shock Doctrine." The clear purpose is to disentangle themselves from the New Globalized Order of Friedmanism (Milton, not Thomas, but maybe.....both?) Good for them!

5. I don't know, but the people of Libya may very well be when the NATO gets done.
Edited on Wed Sep-28-11 05:06 PM by white_wolf
Once NATO gets done Libya will still be in the hands of a dictator, but this new dictator will be a puppet of the U.S., and Libay's standard of living will fall, whereas under Gaddafi it was the highest in Africa. Also, there is the fact that the rebels are proven themselves no better than Qaddafi's forces when it comes to slaughtering anyone who opposes them. NATO should have kept out of Libya, only the people of Libya have the right to overthrow Gaddafi.

Both a Chavez and Gaddafi apologist. Quite remarkable.

23. I think you missed this part of the post:
"NATO should have kept out of Libya, only the people of Libya have the right to overthrow Gaddafi." I don't support or apologize for Gaddafi, but the U.S. and its fellow imperialist allies need to stay out of Libya. If the people want to overthrow Libya, then that's great, but that isn't what happened. I do, however, fully support Chavez. He is doing good things for the people of his country.

The world would be a vastly better place had this happened a hundred years ago.

14. I don't get why Hugo makes friends with evil.
I guess evil goes where evil is .

Soon he'll be allied with the Islamofacists in the mid-east....oh wait, too late!

17. He's set himself up as a dictator.
He's completely curtailed freedom of the press in his country, and has practically run the opposition out of the country, while pushing businesses out of Venezuela with his radical almost Communist-style nationalization.

do.

15. He be considered a dangerous person...On watch list... and
will probably go the way of all South American "person of the people" ....he will be displaced. It's the way it is...how it works. His days are numbered. Somehow, I suspect he knows that ...whether it's his cancer of the "other thing" he's making hay while the sun shines. I'll give him credit for that.

24. They removed him once already
So he's well aware that he's got a target on him.

Funny, I thought we'd have a new set of policies after Bush and Cheney vacated the stolen WH. Silly me for hoping.
