Police make repeat visit to state senator's home

No charges filed in apparent domestic dispute involving Schmidt

By Ruth Fuller, Special to the Tribune

September 28, 2011

<snip>Suzi Schmidt told officials her husband knocked her down and struck her in the eye, authorities said.

They reported that Suzi Schmidt had a red mark on her face and Robert Schmidt had a laceration on his arm.

"My husband and are I going through the most challenging period of our 31-year marriage. It is a very difficult, personal family matter that I deeply regret has become public," the Republican senator said in a statement Tuesday. "We are taking the appropriate steps to try to come to a mutually acceptable resolution." snip

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Stephen Scheller said he declined to approve charges because "it was a case that couldn't be proven in court. There was apparently mutual combat between Suzi Schmidt and her husband."

2. Il Repukes - abusers, deadbeat dads, and thieves
Edited on Wed Sep-28-11 04:42 PM by Doctor_J
My guess is the Herr Schmidt is banging a right-wing lobbyist just like Randy Hopper , and as such is "challenging" their marriage.

Edit: Looks like Ms. Schmidt is the senator. Change subject line appropriately.

3. Fascinating, if you can prove this
you will be famous, and we can own IL forever. Every IL republican is an abuser, deadbeat and a thief?

Of course it is more probable, that you are one of those special people who used to accuse African Americans of being a danger to white women, and eating only a strict diet of fried chicken.

But hey, don't me poop on your attempt to dehumanize people, without you guys, history would never have gotten away with as many atrocities and be quite dull.

4. That double standard again - can you imagine a progressive pol getting away with this?
The law where I live says that one of them goes to jail, no matter what. The couple doesn't have the OPTION to not press charges - criminal charges are pressed by the prosecution.

But not for Republicans, apparently.

5. Not a chance. A Dem would have to resign office by Friday, and
by next Wednesday the IL Assembly wold have opened a full-scale investigation. But since the Repukes completely control the media, this will disappear without a whisper.
