Why did the police attack the protesters last Saturday? What law was broken?
Edited on Wed Sep-28-11 03:19 PM by peacetalksforall
Links regarding the legalities of that specific event would be helpful.

PS - I have no tv and haven't been able to spot a video or story about the law.

Thanks.

2. By Capt. Bologna? Felony Assault for a starter. A creative DA could also charge him
with unlawful restraint, assault with a dangerous weapon, and unlawful arrest. To that he should also face departmental charges of misuse of a Department-Issued weapon, abuse of authority, torturing caged women with his thumb-sized pocket squirter -- but, mostly they should fire his ass for behavior in front of cameras that might get the Department into trouble.

What a sicko. He should go back to slicing meat sandwiches.

4. Too bad they can't assess a financial cost to the city caused by that man
for tourists who will now travel elsewhere because of his actions.

7. What about
for tourists who will now travel elsewhere because of the protests? Should they assess a financial cost to the city caused by them?

12. For the brutal action on innocent victims. For the tourist who want to punish
city government that not only failed in protecting these innocent women/men but failed to discipline those actions. Businesses will be adversely effected by the rogue policemen.

3. The peons were expressing their disgust
for their natural and gawd-ordained superiors in life. Which is not permissible. How dare the peasantry question the nobility??

Is this :sarcasm: really necessary.

9. Our nation is turning into a nation for the rich, by the rich and of the rich ...
Edited on Wed Sep-28-11 03:58 PM by spin
Which is not surprising if you study history.

Even when you study American history you will find times when the rich oppressed the poor. We have so far been able to rectify such situations throughout our history but it remains to be seen if we can do so in modern times.

Our founding fathers launched an interesting experiment in representative democracy and it succeeded far better than they dreamed. We may be able to overcome the big corporations and the rich and those politicians that they buy and own. We can restore the middle class but I fear we face an uphill battle. The question is if we have the courage of those who went before us.

It's a fight for good and worth the effort. We start at the voting booth.

6. It was the "making-the-man-look-bad law"
The same law that forced our leaders to extend the Vietnam War so they didn't look like they were buckling to peace-nics.

Just a guess.

14. I would venture that there is some law on the books, probably left
over from colonial days, prohibiting sidewalk density of a certain level, or the like. Or maybe the jaywalking laws that Mayor 9/11 passed during his tenure. They can usually find something when they want to.

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

18. Thanks for all the words and links - but, no one has offered why the police

started it in a legal sense. There was a report that the protesters were moving 'uptown'. Were they supposed to stay in one area? Did they have to take out a permit to protest and if yes, did they break any part of that.

I hope you understand - those against the protesters are saying that the cops 'were doing their job' and that the women must have been trying to break through the barriers.

It seems to me that the cops were upset about the yelling and noise.

Have there been any statements from the authorities or from the goons on Fox, Cnn, etc about what the protesters did that the cops moved in the way they did?

Thanks. I need legal ammunition or even legal hearsay to use to defend the protesters - or should I say to criticize the police.

19. In this video a female cop is talking to a female protester starting at 1:30 minutes. The
female cop is definitely saying something. It could be what they want her to do OR it could be to EXPLAIN why she is handcuffed.

blocking vehicular and pedstrian traffic. I don't know the date.

I got the impression that they were walking only. One women wrote LOVE in chalk on the street and was arrested.

Did anyone deserve to be arrested?

Was this simply to make the crowd go away?

What about permits - anyone from Occupy Wall Street on the Forum? I'm reading at their site now, but not finding much.

25. It were the ''Tumultuousness'' see?
Raymond W. Kelly, commissioner of the New York Police Department, said Wednesday that its Internal Affairs Bureau would look at the decision by the officer, Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna, to use pepper spray, even as Mr. Kelly criticized the protesters for “http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/tumultuous">tumultuous conduct.”

http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/28/police-department-to-examine-pepper-spray-incident/">link

- Gotta watch that tumultuousness. It's like a gateway drug to more serious offenses like criminal jeering and felonious mocking.....
