Wisconsin: Walker calls special session on jobs bill
http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/130709508.html

..snip..

Sun Prairie - With the state and national economy still struggling, Gov. Scott Walker announced Wednesday a second special session on jobs legislation.

The centerpiece bill highlighted by Walker Wednesday would create a program of grants and loans to biotech companies that would be paid for by redirecting the growth in payroll taxes paid by businesses in that sector on their workers.

"My administration remains focused on job creation and this special session includes from both sides of the aisle," Walker said. But while Walker publicly touts bipartisanship, the Capitol remains mired in acrimony over political differences.

For instance, on Tuesday Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) took the unusual step of refusing to appoint to a mining committee the senators recommended by Minority Leader Mark Miller (D-Monona). Also Tuesday, Democrats accused Republicans of trying to help Walker make it harder for citizens to recall the governor.

..end..

3. It sounds like taking any increased payroll taxes generated and
... giving the companies offsetting tax credits in the same amount.

Another Republican tax giveaway in other words.

Just a guess.

5. seems reasonable, but corps already get federal tax breaks for fica contributions, etc.
so if that's what it means, it means they're giving them free money.

6. FICA taxes are federal taxes and the state has no control over those taxes?
They only have control over the state and local income and unemployment taxes?

9. I'm saying, corps already get a big chunk of the $$ they spend on social programs back from the feds
States giving them double for the same thing = free money -- from you, since state taxes tend to be regressive.

4. Pushing through more of their adgenda while they still have complete control
One seat advantage does not scare them, it is still like there are no Democrats in the capital as far as they are concerned.

7. This is beyond stupid
Why does Walker think he can "create" jobs? Does he have some special knowledge that venture capitalists don't about these companies? Or maybe he just wants to give money to his supporters - the people of Wisconsin's money.

Sick.
