Obama already raised taxes on the wealthy...through the health care legislation.
8. Starting in 2013, a 0.9% Medicare surtax will apply to wages in excess of $200,000 for single taxpayers and over $250,000 for married couples. Also, for the first time ever, a Medicare tax will apply to investment income of high earners. The 3.8% levy will hit the lesser of (1) their unearned income or (2) the amount by which their adjusted gross income exceeds the $200,000 or $250,000 threshold amounts. The new law defines unearned income as interest, dividends, capital gains, annuities, royalties, and rents. Tax-exempt interest won’t be included, nor will income from retirement accounts.

2. When the Bush tax cuts expire the rich will be paying more than the Clinton years.
If they tax Capital Gains at the same rate as income, and add the taxes from the ACA, investment income could be taxed at a higher rate than wages.

3. As it should be.
I can work 12 hours a day, nearly 7 days a week, and I pay the full rate. One time in my life, I've hit the max on SS.

Boo Hoo for the poor job exporters who pay a lower rate, on "unearned income.

The rich either start paying their share of taxes, or we start eating them.

5. Still doesn't go far enough
What compels you to become one of the most fervent - and prolific - boosters for the rich & powerful on this board? The prospect of bennies once their conquest is complete?

6. oh boo freaking hoo
We should immediately institute the same tax rates that Eisenhower used, and do it for a solid decade minimum, just to make up for the damage done by the theft of wealth from this country by the elites and corporations.

My heart bleeds for the wealthy crybabies.... :nopity:

Here it is in graph form for the challenged (Eisenhower 50s, Clinton 90s):

11. Obama hiked taxes on the middle class, too
Edited on Wed Sep-28-11 07:56 AM by MannyGoldstein
1. The "Cadillac Tax" will affect many in the middle class
2. Reductions in the amount that can be put into health savings accounts (HSAs)
3. Obama made a deal with Pharma that many OTC drugs can no longer be paid for with HSAs unless you get a prescription from a doc.
4. Hiking the floor for itemizing medical deductions from 7.5% of income to 10% will harm many in the middle class, but is unlikely to affect the wealthy.

So much for "I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes."

13. Didn't he also raise taxes on cigarettes as soon as
he took office? That tax hurts the poor and middle class.
