Governor Haley has ordered all SC state employees to lie.
The Queen of Hearts has decreed that when state employees answer the phone, they are required to say "It's a great day in SC."

I suppose she thinks that these Potempkin greetings will bring employers and tourists flocking to the state. Her next decree will be to order the creation of a 10 minute break in the day during which all employees will be required to think positive thoughts and concentrate on certain companies she has picked in order to magically influence them to invest in the state.

I think trying to be positive isn't necessarily a bad idea except ordering it is a twee bit overreaching. In addition, when this type of hooha is a substitute for concrete action, it is just another ring in the state government circus.

Sorry Queen! Can't eat or spend Happy!

1. How creepy--I'd think I'd have gotten a wrong number!
And how noxious will that sound when an unenthusiastic employee answers the phone?

Some wag should call a bunch of agencies and record the varying levels of enthusiasm for that mandatory phrase--it would make an amusing little 'bit' on YOUTUBE.

4. One thing I learned while answering the phone when I worked retail,
is that inflection is key. The word 'great' can be made to have several definitions.

9. Given what she and her ilk have been putting state employees through...
...with layoffs, pension cuts, freezes on their already paltry wages, etc., I am sure there will be plenty of material for the YouTube person.

7. I saw that.
If I ever wind up making a call and getting that greeting, I'll just reply, "For the imbecile who lives in our Governor's mansion, maybe. For me, it's another story." What a piece of work this woman is. The scary and sad thing is, if she is to ever be forced out of office (or quit mid-term, like her pal Sarah), the Lt. Governor, who would replace her is equally corrupt and stupid. Wish I could get out of this place...
