NYPD Spokesman LIES about circumstances surrounding the macing of those young women!
The NYPD's chief spokesman, Paul J. Browne, issues a bald-faced lie in his statement about the use of mace at the protests. In the link below, he is quoted as saying, "Pepper spray was used once, after individuals confronted officers and tried to prevent them from deploying a mesh barrier — something that was edited out or otherwise not captured in the video.” EVERYONE should contact the mayor's office as well as the NY Times to call him out on this lie. Even if the video was edited (and I don't believe it was), at the point the officer sprayed the young women, the netting was already deployed and they WERE NOT RESISTING. The pepper spray was an act of pure malice!

3. Thanks for this!
And you know, even if the videos could be edited in such a way as to make it appear as if things occurred differently from how they actually transpired, that would have required an extremely high level of video editing. I don't know if you've ever tried to edit video, but if you are trying to do anything beyond mere cutting of frames, it is a tedious, painstaking process. There's no way these videos could have been so edited and posted online within such a short time of the actual occurrence of the events.

7. I used to edit video for a living, so I know how intensive
video editing can be. :)

11. So do you concur with my assertion . . .
. . . that it is extremely implausible that the kind of video editing suggested by the NYPD spokesman could have taken place in the matter of a few hours between when the incident occured and when it was circulated on the Internet?

2. I saw one woman give the barrier a couple of swift kicks
but she in no way threatened its integrity nor were the kicks aimed at any of the cops, who were on the far side of the "kettle" from her.

She wasn't even maced. The smaller, prettier ones were.

That cop needs to go.

6. I'm really sick of their little badminton nets. Isn't it illegal in some way? It has to be.

"A version of this article appeared in print on September 26, 2011, on page A21 of the New York edition with the headline: Videos Show Police Using Pepper Spray at Protest on the Financial System."
