F**k You, Frank Rich!
The restaurant critic-cum-political expert begins his latest coulmn in New York magazine with the following:

The election is still thirteen months away, but in certain coastal circles, the quadrennial wailing has erupted right on schedule: “If that man gets in the White House, I’m moving out of the country!” This time that man is Rick Perry, who might have been computer-generated to check every box in a shrill liberal fund-raising letter...

Well, this shrill liberal has never made that statement: Not in 2000, not in 2004 (though I almost did it when DickBush got "reelected"), nor in 2008. (Hey, if McCain had become president, there'd be no place on the planet to hide from the radiation!)

But I FUCKING SWEAR TO GOD: If Rick Perry is elected to the presidency in November of next year, I am selling my house (for half its value if need be), buying the biggest fucking SUV I can find (the environment will be screwed anyway), packing as much of my shit as I can into it, driving up to Marquette, grabbing my daughter (she's a sophomore/will be a junior there), packing her shit, and heading North!!!

(Does anyone know what the Canadian equivalent of a "coyote" is? A moose, maybe?)

21. It's not going to happen overnight, but when I close my eyes and imagine ...
incumbent VP, Sarah Palin, fresh off the McCain/Palin administration's triumphant nuking of Iran, running for the Presidency; I realize that things could be one Hell of a lot worse.

2. I think you are doing a real dis-service to the substance of
Rich's column. Here's how the quote you used continues just ONE SENTENCE LATER:

"And this time the liberals’ panic is not entirely over-the-top. Perry isn’t a novelty nut job like Michele Bachmann. He’s the real deal."

In other words, Rich is saying you are entirely justified in your panicky feelings.

5. Hm. Smells like lack-of-context.

Frank Rich has been writing about politics for quite some time and he's a true liberal. Seasoned writers often begin their pieces with a couple of lines to grab your attention. You're supposed to keep reading though. The article goes on to detail how Rick Perry could potentially become the Republican candidate and why that would be BAD.

ETA: As someone else said, a link would be nice. I had to google Frank's latest column to see what the hell you were talking about.

9. I think he was being humorous
It is kind of funny, because there's a great deal of truth in it. I'll certainly want to leave the country too. I don't want to live in Christian Nation Teabaggerville, USA!

14. Mr. Rich was the Theater critic for the NY Times
That was almost 20 years ago but his influence while in that position was formidable. He he then became an editorial/opinion writer for the Times from 1994 until just this year. Now he works for New York Magazine.

15. Shouldn't your header be 'Frank Rich was spot-on?'
Because you seem to be backing up the stereotype that he was lampooning. I don't get what you are mad about here. Is it that he seems to not be taking these types of threats seriously? Because your own account of your reaction to 2004 seems to back up his jab as well, since you 'almost did it.'

While I wouldn't come at this the same way as Frank Rich did, I would add that I think it's a bit selfish for Americans to talk about how horrible it would be to live under so-and-so's presidency when such a large percentage of the world's population lives in far worse circumstances, both material and political. If you want to emigrate, that's your business . . . but keep in mind that there are a lot of other people around the world who would like to live in Canada for political reasons and I think many of them could make a much better case than you could. I would also urge you to set a good example by obeying their immigration laws and not try to go the 'coyote' route.

20. You're confusing Frank Rich with Frank Bruni
Bruni was a restaurant critic and Rich was a theatre critic. They both sucked.
