The case of the disappearing cleavage

If you think Photoshopping is reserved for flashy advertisements and glossy magazine covers, think again – even politicians can’t escape the wrath of the digital airbrush. Case in point: First-year Canadian MP Rathika Sitsabaiesan is currently at the center of a Photoshopping controversy after someone deemed her cleavage too sexy for Parliament.

--------------

Sitsabaiesan is only in her first year on the job, but has already earned praise for her confidence and poise. Unfortunately, her talent is being overshadowed by the curiously cropped photo and its ramifications for women in the political world. Critics argue that the alteration was anti-feminist, and that that the cleavage was removed to make Sitsabaiesan appear less womanly.

6. Lines are ALWAYS added to: cleavage; edges of mouths; hairlines; chins/jaws; lashes; nose bridges.
Check any printed photo. ANY.

7. Um, I think they're not the same photo.
It's not just the cleavage; the hair is different and so is her expression.

Either they lightened her skin, shrank her head AND clone tool-ed out her boob crack, they're different pictures.

Personally, I'm pro-boob, but the question is, if the photo was altered, who did it and if it was at her behest. If she wanted the photo changed, I don't see a problem.

10. I still say it's a different shot. Doesn't mean they didn't erase the cleavage on #2
but again, without knowing who did it it's hard to get outraged.

12. Exhibit 5,344,922 in a depressingly never-ending series
Sometimes I wonder if we make too big a deal out of things that happen. Is Sarah Palin really worth all the attention she gets? (Answer: No.) Can't we just let some things go? (Answer: Probably.) But as Ms. Sitsabaiesan's photo shows, there is literally nothing that will escape the attention of the blue noses. I may not join you in every protest, but I have decided that I won't stand in the way if this (or anything) strikes someone as oppressive or worthy of negative notice, then go for it.

The overzealous airbrusher should be exposed (no pun intended).

21. If you're saying men dress more professionally, I agree.
It's creates a "what the heck?" to see a man in a 3-piece suit and long-sleeve shirt standing next to a woman in a sleeveless dress cut down to her navel. One of them has to be at least mildly uncomfortable.

15. I think it's hilarious that it's even a controversy.
We're living in a time characterized by wars, revolutions, violent rebellion, economic chaos, and class warfare. Of all the things out there that are controversial, this isn't a big deal at all.

26. If that's supposed to be a professional photo, it's not very professional to sport cleavage.

That big costumey jewelry isn't good either. Looks like a personal "Glamour Shot" kinda thing going on here. Bad choice, lady. And the photoshopping is silly.
