Pair of earthquakes jolt Bay Area
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A pair of earthquakes have jolted the San Francisco Bay Area.

A 3.5-magnitude earthquake was reported near San Leandro and a 2.3-magnitude earthquake shook near the San Francisco Zoo.

2. Those are relatively minor, as these things go...
I'm sure the seismologists are watching, in case they lead to something bigger.

These might be fore-shocks.

4. I was wondering what that was!
the house kind of jolted but I didn't pay it too much attention. It wasn't that bad, where I am anyway.

6. I didn't feel any shaking

But a few things did fall off the pantry shelf. By the way, it's kind of freaky that both the San Andreas and Hayward Faults would stir at the same time. And this isn't the first recent sign of activity on the Hayward.

10. Those are very minor. Probably a couple dozen folks got "jolted".
And yes, I have plenty of up close and personal experience with significant earthquakes.

12. But one thing bothers me
The quake by the zoo means the San Andreas. The one in San Leandro must originate from the Hayward Fault, which was already acting up.

13. ...and both are "overdue"
I recall after the Loma Prieta's 10th anniversary, I looked up the dates running back about 100+ yrs. and there was always a lag of about 10-12 yrs between the two. Loma Prieta was in 89... and nothing since has happened on the Hayward...or the san Andreas... :scared:

16. Checking in from Berkeley
Didn't feel a thing.

Those are really small. Anyone from the Bay would likely not even notice it!
