CPI: Need info, please
We went to Costco today. Shopping smartly for hi-protein, not expensive foods to mainly fill freezer.

A shopping basket in 2007 which -same type foods and goods- cost us about $150 in early 2007 cost us $209 today.

I know there are super smart DUers who understand inflation. Do you know a source where I can show somebody who thinks I'm wrong about "CPI" why and how groceries and consumer goods are higher priced?

being able to explain why food prices don't necessarily indicate inflation? Or why food isn't included in measuring core inflation? It's because of the volatility of food items.

Here's one link:

EDIT: Essentially, forces other than inflation can -- and often do -- cause food prices to rise. This isn't inflationary, however.
