just here for a minute. took a bad fall on Tuesday night smashed my tibia and fibula

so i fell and heard it snap. had to crawl out of the house and up the dirt road to my neighbors. took a while for the ambulance. they put in a titanium rod the length of my tibia. just got out of the hospital this evening. It's a huge drag.

16. thanks peggy. most painful thing that I've ever experienced

the phone was upstairs. I was at the bottom of the stairs. and yes, they're worked out the pain medication. the surgeon says the pain should only be bad for another week. I was 4 hours in surgery!

I hope you're not in too much pain. (D'oh: of course you are.) When you're healed from all the surgery, do partake of some good physical therapy (if your insurance pays for it) to get your strength and abilities back.

Watch out for infection. And make sure you stay hydrated - I know when I hurt my knee I was not drinking enough water because (1) it was hard to get it and (2) it was hard to deal with the consequences of drinking a lot of water.

65. BEen there, done that. My condolences.

It took me about three to four years to fully recover. I was 50 at the time. Might try going to mybrokenleg.com for some tips and companionship to comiserate. Everyone there has either a broken leg or has had one, so you'll be in good company. There was a gal there that gave me some good rehab exercises at the time. She was a professional downhill skier. Try not to let your muscles deteriorate too much cuz it takes a long time to get em back. The patellar tendon that crosses the top of your knee took me a long time to rehab. I sat here at the puter and repeated lifted my leg to a horizontal position with an ankle weight on to exercise it.

Good wishes your way. I've still got all my leg braces if you need em, but I suspect you already have them. I had to lay around for a week before I could get into the hospital for arthroscopic surgery and I had to wear a brace that kept my leg straightened out. Try sleeping with that on!
