There is a reason Perry seemed unprepared and uninterested at the last debate
It is because he was unprepared and uninterested and his campaign is just about over with. He never was planning on making a serious run for it anyway. He knew his positions were indefensible and made him unelectable on a national ticket before he announced he was running.

He got the base fired up. Maybe a little too fired up for his fellow candidates? None of them want any more spontaneous KKK events breaking out at their next nationally televised debates that seem to follow Perry everywhere he goes. They realize they are creating President Obamas TV ads for free every time there is another GOP debate with Perry there.

I don't believe Perry will be at any more debates. I think someone told him before the last one it was going to be his last and he didn't even prep for it because he knew it was his last one. Serious candidates don't forget to prep for debates.

1. Sarah Palin was pretty unprepared for her debates, too.
And she didn't go away.

Maybe the reason Perry seemed unprepared is that he's as dumb as a sack of hammers?

15. Look, if the Pakistani Taliban get nuclear weapons, we need to strengthen ties to India.
That will take care of everything.

Perry souded brain-damaged trying to answer that question.

16. Debates? I thought she did just one with Joe Biden.
All she had to do to sorta-win is not drool on the stage. She managed to accomplish that, and became the Repig front-runner the day after the 2008 election.

2. He's the Fred Thompson of 2011
Remember Fred? The entire pundit world went apeshit over him in late 2007. Chirs Matthews had a big ol man crush on him. He campaigned in a red pickup which of course appealed to real Americans if the beltway talking heads were to be believed.

Then Fred participated in a few debates and once he opened his mouth and revealed how unprepared he was for the presidency and how uninterested he was in a serious campaign he was toast. He disappeared from the scene before Jan 1, 2008 IIRC.

I see the same thing going on right now with Perry.

5. Whenever I hear Fred's name, I remember that picture
of Fred sitting alone in a company break room, starring up at a TV covering the primaries. It was a very lonely looking pic.

7. I don't think it's comparable
Most people thought that Thompson would be a top-tier candidate but most people didn't think he had as good of a chance at the nomination. Most observers (myself included) thought that Perry would be the Republican candidate and would beat Romney. I still think he has a shot at it, although he certainly isn't helping himself with debate performances like that one.

FWIW, Thompson never turned in a debate performance as bad as Perry had on Thursday night.

I honestly don't know what happened to Perry on Thursday. That answer on the 3 am question was just gibberish and the attack on Romney's inconsistencies sounds like it came from a man who had 12 beers in him. It was arguably worse than Palin's Couric interview.

3. I didn't watch and didn't read the recaps, etc.
If he wouldn't bother prepping for a debate hosted by the friendlies at FUX Snooze, why would anyone trust him to prepare himself for presidential issues?

I think Bro. Perry's brain finally reached its maximum capacity. His handlers simply couldn't pound any more talking points into his pea-brain.

4. it sure is nice
when elections are decided without all that voting and counting nonsense. The media can just annoint somebody and proceed directly to the coronation. Do not pass go, or a voting booth, and do not collect any more $200 donations.

8. And because...
He is an empty suit who knows nothing. He has gotten by all of these years on his looks he has always gotten away with debating in Texas because he doesn't seem to be held accountable but in the entire country he will. during the general election if he even gets that far.

He looks like a deer in the headlights because he doesn't know how to debate and was scared as hell maybe with a few drinks in him and republiCON talking points..

12. I think he intends to schlump his way through it, knowing
that the people who support him either don't care about the facts or are too stupid to understand he his lying.

I think he is in it for the long haul.

14. Some people just can't be prepared
You can drill them and drill them with the message and they still can't retain it for 10 minutes.

Perry and Palin are both in that category. Thy use the clown thing to cover for their inability to carry the conversation.

This one was like he was thinking about the vacation he is going to be on real soon.

17. Interesting idea..but why? I mean who would have asked him
to run? Or are you saying he did it for the good of the entire party?

Might be some problems with that...like he sure did try and knock Mitt
down a notch - the presumptive front runner. Why would higher powers
that be want that?
