Anyone know anything about the Weekly Standard's claim
that the Obama administration is banning Asthma inhalers?

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/obama-administration-ban-asthma-inhalers-over-environmental-concerns_594113.html

Saw this on someone's Facebook page.

3. FDA finalized plans to phase out the products in 2008 when Bush was president
Funny how the standard leaves that little detail out isn't it?

Standard appears to be trolling for imbeciles.

5. they are going to prescription only - not a ban.
and as others have noted, this was a regulation initiated in the Bush administration, and is required under treaty obligations to reduce and eliminate CFC emissions.

6. Reagan signed the treaty that started it; order to ban was set in 2005
I posted this to facebook after a friend posted the Weekly Standard link and called Obama an asshole. Trying to be diplomatic. If I drop this friend I lose a chance to debunk the crap.

When did journalism die? The use of “news” for political purposes is a sad and dangerous thing.
When you get the e-mail or see the headline “Obama Bans Asthma Inhalers” take a deep breath. A phase-out of over the counter inhalers using chlorofluorocarbons has been in effect since 2008. The gradual change to inhalers w/o CFC’s was made under Montreal Protocol that Reagan signed in 1987, an international treaty to protect ozone and phase out CFC’s. In 2005 the FDA set “after Dec 2008” as the date to make the rule effective, and the phase-out began.
