Michael Moore calls for economic boycott of Georgia - Gov. Deal's office amused
http://www.ajc.com/news/director-michael-moore-urges-1187487.html?cxtype=rss_news

“We think it’s cute that he thinks anyone in Georgia would buy his book, but if any Georgian does, I’m happy to double the royalties and buy a pack of gum for a charity of Michael Moore’s choice,” Robinson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

A crappy insult from a corrupt Governor's office.

1. This Georgian will buy Moore's book and send
Nathan Deal the receipt, and we'll see if he honors his statement.

2. It sounds like we got the official "Bring It On!" from the governor's office.
If there are any arguments against boycotting, that attitude negates a lot of them in my mind.

20. I'm completely against these types of *statewide* boycotts. All it does
is hurt the average person in that state. It's better to work a political solution and end the death penalty in *all* states.

32. A lot of working people backed the AZ boycott.
We were their only defense/ pushback against institutionalized racism for a while, especially hotel workers. For a while, people were afraid to leave their homes to go to the doc or the grocery store or take their kids to school.

I do think it's a good idea to tread lightly with these actions and only follow through if there is support and if the damage is outweighed by the good.

35. Regardless, it's misguided. Not that any such boycott will actually take place,
but if it did, lower income Georgians would pay the price, not the rich.

And you are wrong that the only way to change policy is to muster the many and hurt the few in their wallets. Popular demands often translate into policy notwithstanding economic impact.

I don't think it's too radical to claim that without economic impact, popular will is DOA in these United States as they are today.

43. I think it is inaccurate.
Economic impact is probably one of the most effective ways to get policy changed, but not the only way.

The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act is a good example. I can't readily ascertain that any economic impact was required to get this legislation passed.

too many Republican's, too many McMega Churches, deep racial divides.

My hippie friend from grade school, applied to work for Greenpeace, married a Republican and is now a Republican.
She's not the strongest person and the pressure by hubby and years of watching FOX due to husband finally flipped her.
No reason to ever step foot in Georgia ever again.

31. Its so hard to actually avoid the economy of a large state like GA

Crops are grown here and shipped worldwide.

Our ports are right up there in volume with Miami.

Kias are made here. Glocks, too.

If you drive I-95 or I-75, you have to come thru GA.

Delta is hubbed in ATL

Calling for an economic boycott of GA is futile.
