Bachmann: Conservatives ‘don’t have to sit on the back of the bus’

Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann Thursday likened the conservative movement to the Civil Rights movement, a comparison that some may find offensive.

“Of any election, this is the one where conservatives don’t have to settle,” the candidate said at an Orlando rally organized by Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom Coalition.

“President Obama’s approval numbers are the lowest they’ve ever been, and I am here to tell you, they are going lower further,” she added. “So we don’t have to go to the side, we don’t have to sit on the back of the bus in this election. We need to stand up and be counted and have a candidate who is truly a social conservative who will stand for our issues.”

The phrase “back of the bus” is associated with African Americans’ struggle for equal rights. In the 1950s, Montgomery, Alabama reserved the front of public busses for white riders, while blacks had to move to the rear. Rosa Parks sparked a bus boycott when she refused to give up her seat for a white passenger.

In 2009, the polling organization Gallup found that only 2 percent of the Republican Party identified themselves as black.

Who was she speaking to? Members of the KKK?

3. It's called Victim Envy.
They want sooooo bad to have a gripe to whine about. They have all the privilege and all the influence and the money and really the control. But Obama wants, for example, private health care insurers to be just a tiny bit nicer to us and OH WHAT AN OUTRAGE!!!

That is why every time a Dem or a liberal or a progressive says the tiniest thing they can contort into a manufactured affront, they cry bloody murder. Thin-skinned, hypocritical, need-to be-sent-home-crying babies!

4. Rush started the right wingers on this
THEY were the victims because THEY were afraid to talk about their ideas openly, i.e. their racist ideas. It was so Politically Incorrect (I think the right invented that whine). Poor babies! :no pity:

5. Ew
What is it about prominent republican female candidates? First Palin, who is embarrassing, and now Bachman, who is even worse in her way. Both make me cringe, I want to see women up there who at least make sense.

We may argue about our Democratic female contenders, but they don't have this(evidently)female republican prerequisite for total dumbassness.

12. I halfway wish she would get the nomination
just to see the republicans wake up and sell her down the river by running a "normal republican" on a 3rd party ticket.

16.  She's not very good with metaphors, is she?
I can't quite figure out what she's trying to say there. It may be just as well: it's probably really insulting.

18. If she'd change that from 'social' conservatives to 'fiscal' ones, she'd be right
Millions of people on all 'sides' of the political spectrum believe it makes more sense to spend money on things like healthcare, instead of war.

But those people have no representation, no voice in the media or DC
