Thank You, Elizabeth Warren!

Finally, a progressive who knows how to fight back hard against the ridiculous "class warfare" charges from the GOP. In one fell swoop, Elizabeth Warren, candidate for the US Senate from Massachusetts, delivered a powerful knock-out blow against this GOP nonsense.

Send Elizabeth Warren a "thank you" note. Thank her for standing up for progressive values, and for showing other Democrats how to fight.

Warren's point was simple: Nobody gets rich on their own. You can watch the video below, but here's the key part:


"I hear all this, you know, 'Well, this is class warfare, this is whatever,'" Warren said. "No. There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own -- nobody.

"You built a factory out there? Good for you. But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police-forces and fire-forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory -- and hire someone to protect against this -- because of the work the rest of us did.

"Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea. God bless -- keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is, you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along."1


Progressives take note: THAT is how it is done. THAT is how you fight back hard, and THAT is how you defeat Fox News talking points. And THAT is why Warren has actually moved AHEAD of the Republican incumbent in this race.

I've been waiting for any politician .... from anywhere, to say just that.

I can't think of a single well-off person or corporation that got to be where they are without the help of taxpayers, employees, gov't programs (except those who inherited, and even their ancestors probably didn't start out wealthy. We have a very large trucking / and other business in our small town owned by one man with the help of a mentor, someone who really had begun the business alone. This current owner has been mayor term after term, but only because he's so well-liked. He hires locally as much as he can, those who haven't got a great education have jobs they can do and are still paid well. Oil is booming here so within months our town has doubled, he's made sure as much as possible there's housing for them .... he's a liberal and doesn't mind a bit paying his fair share in taxes. I guess it's different in small towns where people look out for one another, but he'd be the first to tell the rich it is their duty to pay it back.

Love this. So simple, so direct:
