Silicon Valley Howls With Laughter At Thought of Meg Whitman Being CEO of HP
Source: Business Insider SAI

Meg did a great job at eBay in the early years, but she checked out in the later ones, and the only thing that HP and eBay have in common is that they're both in the Valley.

What we're most startled by, however, is the speed with which the Valley's tech pundits have gone public to ridicule the idea of Meg running HP.

...
"The notion that H.P. can be fixed by adding a celebrity chief executive is laughable."

...
Ms. Whitman would be “an unmitigated disaster...Her style is so arrogant it gags.”

It's a thin article, but I loved the headline.... :D

1. Damn. And I'm shopping around for a new printer (an all-in-one)
Looks like I'll have to drop HP from consideration - who knows if they'll even be in existence within 3 years?

10. I've liked Epson in the past
Not too sure how their current products are, though. HP has been a must-avoid for at least a decade now, ever since Carly Fiorina ran a great American company headfirst into the ground.

18. With Meg Whitman, they're basically voting for Carly Fiorina 2.0.
Their board of directors may have become completely politicized.

12. Get the printer if you like it.
Their printers are pretty good. But the Whitman choice is ridiculous. Just like the Apotheker pick was.

Here in the HEART of Silicon Valley. We were laughing about the urgent need to sell all shares of HP!

11. HP is such a joke.
From one terrible decision to the next. What is Whitman going to do for HP? They couldn't find another CEO? They are clueless.

15. One thing I am very grateful for
The scientific instrument division spun off into Agilent, which saved it from the ravages of Fiorina, and will save it from Whitman.

16. Agilent makes good stuff
I especially like their GC-mass specs. I hadn't thought of that connection in a while.

19. The HPLC stuff isn't bad either, but I've always been hooked into Waters
They've got the best customer field tech support in that area.

17. My girlfriend just rolled her eyes
She was offered a senior position with HP about two years ago overseeing R&D for several PC product lines but declined it, she is feeling pretty confident about that decision now. Her parents were ready to murder her at the time.
