OBAMA: "Mr. Boehner. Mr. McConnell. Help us rebuild this bridge! Help us rebuild America!"
What is Congress waiting for? Why is it taking so long? Now, the bridge behind us just happens to connect the state that’s home to to the Speaker of the House with the home state the Republican leader in the Senate.

Now that’s just a coincidence. It’s purely accidental that that happened. (Laughs)

But part of the reason I came here is that Mr. Boehner and Mr. McConnell, those are the two most powerful Republicans in government. They can either kill this jobs bill or they can help pass this jobs bill. <…> There’s no reason for Republicans in Congress to stand in the way of more construction projects. There’s no reason to stand in the way of more jobs.

Mr. Boehner. Mr. McConnell. Help us rebuild this bridge! Help us rebuild America! Help us put construction workers back to work! Pass this bill!

1. Not gonna happen
They would rather be in charge of a ruined bridge than have to share the success of a working bridge.

2. More like this, please
Call them out on specifics. Call them out often. Call them out in front of their own people. But call them out, and keep calling them out. Despite the nonsense rhetoric of the nitwit brigade currently trying to run this country, we elect people to government to do things, not to sit around plotting their next political victory so they can go on Fox and crow about how they fucked over another 10 million citizens.

10. Funny, I didnt hear a word from him for 18 months about the Health Care Plan.
Can you be more specific about what he "talked" about? I mean loud and clear like he is talking now.

13. You know that is a big problem
One goes out for two years and talks all tough and then when they get the job nothing happens.
I look at running for office as nothing more than applying for a job. They fill out a job application by making speeches and promises.
And then they say, Oh it was just campaign promises and the people let them get by with that.
If that was any other job the person would be fired. The republicans do not seem to have any problem signing contracts and then following through.

This president for over 2 1/2 years has fallen down on the job. He lied on his job application. He has 1 1/2 years left to prove he is worthy to be rehired. Others will state that all one has to do is look at all the good he has done. I look at those things and say so what if gays can marry and serve in the military, if they have no job, no place to live, no food, no rights, what good does it do.

I say no more wars, cut the military, raise taxes, draw a line in the concrete and do not cross. Drawing a line in the sand tends to be too easy to erase and change.

14. Not that we will have a choice, but I hope he takes progressive action
between now and the election. At least we would have that. We know his promises are hollow.

Let's hope it does hurt them...

Bastards.

Keep at it, Mr. President!

9. The LA Times sees this a little differently.
This bridge, the Brent Spence Bridge, has "decades of good life left in its steel spans".

There are NO plans to rebuild this bridge. There ARE plans however, to build another bridge not far from it. It's not going to even BEGIN construction for around four years, and won't be finished even with NO delays until 2022.
