the fuckers are at it again..Disaster aid bill fails in Republican-led House
WASHINGTON — In a rebuke to Republican leaders, the GOP-controlled House on Wednesday rejected a disaster-relief measure as part of a bill to keep the federal government running past the end of the month failed.

Such temporary extensions of government funding are the norm on Capitol Hill, but the extension failed on a 195-230 vote, in which 48 Republicans voted against the bill.

The outcome sends House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and his leadership team back to the drawing board as they seek to make sure the government doesn't shut down on Sept. 30, the end of this fiscal year. It also raises the possibility that the government's main disaster relief program could run out of money early next week for victims of Hurricane Irene and other disasters.

Earlier Wednesday, Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia, the No. 2 Republican in the House, had confidently predicted the measure would pass. Now, GOP leaders are scrambling to revive the measure on Thursday in hopes of wrapping up a final compromise with the Senate by the weekend.

2. This is bad news for the GOP, good news for us
They can't even rally their own members--I think CNN reported that that 48 of their members defected to vote with Democrats. :)

Wow - that never would have happened a few months ago.
Wonder if they're just getting fed up with the bullshit or if they're getting serious pressure from their constituents.

Regardless, welcome to the 48!

10. It looks like some of their arguments are losing the resonance they once had
And Dems seem to be doing a better job of highlighting their differences, at least on some very clear-cut issues that are coming up now.

What's amazing is that the GOP continues to oppose FEMA after all the recent disasters. :wtf:

5. It was a GOOD thing that the bill did not pass
the aid was tied to cuts elsewhere.

They need to introduce a new bill, one in which the disaster aid is NOT tied to cuts.

8. Yes it was.

I read it in an article somewhere earlier.

The democrat whip got enough republicans to vote with the dems to defeat the bill.

There are quite a few republicans that believe disaster relief should not be tied to cuts.
Especially those from states that have had a lot of tornado and hurricane (flood/wind) damage.

WASHINGTON (AP) - In a rebuke to GOP leaders, the House on Wednesday rejected a measure providing $3.7 billion for disaster relief as part of a bill to prevent a government shutdown at the end of next week.

The surprise 230-195 defeat came at the hands of Democrats and tea party Republicans.

Democrats were opposed because the measure contains $1.5 billion in cuts to a government loan program to help car companies build fuel-efficient vehicles. For their part, many GOP conservatives felt the underlying bill permits spending at too high a rate.

Why can't they do a stand alone bill? Why does it always have to have something else attached?
I don't understand this.

12. Their biggest concern is getting it done by Thursday night
so they can get another week vacation
I guess they have their priorities in line

If they need to offset the FEMA aid then take it out of any aid to Israel
or Iraq or Afghanistan or any other place we have a war going on

I an getting real sick of these spoiled little children with their petty little turf wars.
When are they going to put the American people first??
