I was looking at it from a mother's perspective.

It's a travesty. My heart hurts for both women,

Someone has to be held accountable for this miscarriage of justice.

15. She lost her son who was killed trying to save a homeless man...
While I don't advocate the death penalty whatsoever and would hope I would never request the DP as some form of warped "justice" for the loss of someone close to me, this derision of the victim's family is just disgusting.

It is the horribly broken criminal justice system that should be the focus of our anger... Not the family members of the victim! Geebus. Show some humanity.

33. I get your point, however, MANY families of victims react differently...
They choose to get help and do not let themselves be consumed by negative emotions. They take it upon themselves to find better ways to grieve.

Sorry, but I do not feel sorry for her. This did not happened yesterday, she had plenty of time and resources to get help with grieving. I know her son was killed violently and did not deserved it. If she cannot change that her son is dead at least she can try changing her attitude.

41. While all that is true
the ultimate promise, illusory, is that the death of the perpetrator, will make things better. It is the promise of the system.

One of my former neighbors lost a dad to a murderer... he was promised this by the execution... to this day, or the last time I saw him, that peace never came.

And I could tell you the stories of many of my patients who were victims of many a violent crime. Or for that matter the child rapist we took to the hospital, who of couse was railroaded... and was a charming person.

But the system promises that death of the perpetrator will finally bring peace... alas it won't. And then, and only then, they might finally seek that help. The other promise is that then you can "move on." Which also proves illusory and false. Sometimes the best advocates against the DP are families of victims who feel cheated by the system that made promises that of course it could never keep.

This is why I am not quite agnostic on this, but I don't judge. This is also why I get the reaction. If I got a dollar for every time I got a demand for revenge...

46. Fully agreed
and I wish her to find that peace... I really do... to both families actually.

Help is what would help, in that we are not in disagreement.

Why I see more than just one family who becomes a victim in a DP case.

Well the family of the victim... and also the family of the perpetrator.

Why in the end I think it is barbaric, and tonight it is actually a good kettle of fish.

In this case what makes it more horrific is that chances are the perpetrator was not the one strapped to the gurney tonight. IF they ever find that out and decide to prosecute ... I really do not know how the family will react.

That is what is bothersome to me. I don't see the use for revenge. When it is accompanied by a bullish-like attitude, I have a real hard time with that.

50. I am against the DP
on the grounds that we have executed innocent people..

That should be enough... to just commute all to life in prison.

If more innocent are behind bars (and there are a few)... then we can correct that mistake. Once dead.. we really can't.

As a society it is a great moral burden to the nation.

Perfectly stated in your subject line. She is totally convinced that Davis murdered her son. If the day ever comes that new evidence vindicates Davis, I think it will only add to the nightmare she is already burdened with for the rest of her life. I feel sorry for her as well.
