Georgia Supreme Court rejects Davis; U.S. Supreme Court final chance
Troy Anthony Davis declined to make a recorded statement this afternoon as the clock ticked down toward his execution tonight, a prison official said.

Davis will be given one last chance to say his final words once he is strapped to the lethal injection gurney. He is set to be put to death by lethal injection at 7 p.m.

Davis' chance to be spared execution suffered a blow this afternoon as first Superior Court Judge Thomas Wilson declined to issue a stay and then the Georgia Supreme Court unanimously rejected Davis' final bid. Davis' lawyers will now appeal to the the U.S. Supreme Court, his last chance for relief.

31. RLOL... I have read this in other places
You were not going to vote democratic anyway.

And my intolerance actually goes as far as this true contradiction... against women's reproductive rights, because that is what it is... but pro death penalty. Just guessing you are a man too.

As I said. the "pro life crew" cares, right until they leave the birth canal.

I am not saying you, but most people I know... will not even TITHE to take care of kids born from unwanted pregnancies. Oh and having seen into the eyes of a DYING woman from a systemic infection... let me tell you... it is not a sight you want to repeat too often

27. A bundle of cells with no consciousness is not a baby.
Secondly, I find it very hypocritical that you right-wingers are so pro-life, but so strongly for the death penalty. Face it, you are nothing more than a supporter of state sanctioned murder.

my niece was murdered last year. they still haven't caught the killer. killed by some cowardly fuck while she was walking down the street minding her own business.

but when and IF he's caught, I want it to be the right person. Not someone convicted under a huge cloud of doubt, no weapon, no DNA, and iffy and recanting witnesses.

so here is someone who DOES have equity in the matter telling you to take your bloodthirsty bullshit and ram it.

26. You want to hear from a victim's family member? Fine--hear it from me. THE DEATH PENALTY IS WRONG.
My father was brutally murdered in 1995. I http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3411023">have posted about it before. As someone who meets your high standards for having a legitimate opinion about this issue, I say that what's happening tonight--and what happens EVERY time someone is murdered by the state--is flat-out fucking WRONG.

Am I pissed at the man who killed my Dad? Hell fucking yes--of COURSE I am. Do I hate him? Yes I do. He's a sick, sociopathic monster who has NEVER shown even the slightest bit of remorse for what he did to my Dad. He beat him to death with the center piece to a tire jack, for fuck's sake--that takes a LONG time. It's not like shooting someone and then regretting it. He had to KEEP making that choice to murder Dad--he had to do it over and over and over again every time he swung that piece of metal.

But I damned sure would NOT want to see him executed. Murdering people in order to demonstrate that murdering people is wrong is just INSANE. I'm GLAD West Virginia doesn't have the death penalty. The thought of that piece of shit spending the rest of his life in prison is just FINE with me. Let his kids have whatever pathetic amount of "contact" they can get with him behind bars. God knows I'd give both of my legs to have MY Dad still alive, even if he was in prison for life.

Rodney Doman's death wouldn't do a damned thing to bring my Dad back or ease the pain of his loss. It would just be one more fucking nightmare to have to live through. Not ALL victims' families are bloodthirsty, vengeful savages. Some of us realize that adding yet another death to the equation does not create "justice". It just makes the whole thing even MORE of a heartbreaking tragedy.

Don't you dare sit there and pontificate about how you support state-sponsored murder for the sake of "the victim's family" without walking in MY shoes for a while. You have no fucking idea what it's like. None.

35. You don't have a clue
about what people feel about their loved ones being hurt or murdered. the experience is different for everyone. Which shows your lack of character and insight. If you want to leave go ahead. This is not the place for trolls. You gave yourself away. And around here those who are pro life or pro choice believe that this is for their womb and not the wombs of others. And who made your ass the WOMB POLICE???????????????

10. First of all Davis is likely innocent.
Second of all, even if he is guilty this is nothing more than state sanctioned murder and I have no use for those who support such barbarism. It's time we abandoned this vile practice of state-sanctioned murder and join the 21st century. I find your view utterly disgusting and backwards. Even if he is guilty, the death penalty is still murder. You say he deserves death, but to quote Tolkien: “Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends."

especially since there seems significant reason to doubt his guilt.

It's pretty obvious. You could at least disguise your motives a tad bit harder.

18. In this case, the victim's family disgusts me...
I saw them in a recent interview and their craven sense of justice doesn't care if Davis is innocent or not. They just want someone to die... ANYONE (although, after watching the interview, I got the sense they're not-too-upset that person is black).

19. They hope to reach some sort of closure
I get it... problem is that they will find soon that they won't... the what ifs and nightmares will continue... that is when one or two of them will realize what others have over the years. Very few victim's families (forget guilt or innocence for the moment) actually find that closure they so sorely desire.

22. Executing a man who may not have done
this isn't helping anyone. For the victim's family. I wish them peace with what they believe. But seems like what they were led to believe all these years might not be true. And I watched the mother on TV and she is a closed minded individual who doesn't want to believe they could have got it wrong. All she cares about is if someone dies since her son is dead. I am not with executing people because you want to pay for a life. It doesn't bring the person back. It doesn't repay for the time lost with your loved one. It doesn't give closure. How the fuck do you get closure when your love one is not with you. I have lost loved ones through sickness, natural causes, and violence, and want them here with me more than I wanted someone dead to repay for their death. Stupid Concept executing people for people. And if capital punishment is the thing to do what will they say if this man is truly innocent? Oh Well. Seems like Black men are more prone to lethal injections than any other race. Have they executed the men who dragged a Black man behind a pick up truck in Jasper County,Texas???????? How soon we forget!!!!!!!
