AVANNAH, Ga. -- In Savannah, Troy Davis supporters dropped off petitions to Chatham County District Attorney Larry Chisolm. Two hundred-forty thousand signatures were delivered Wednesday morning, all urging Chisholm to ask a Superior Court judge to vacate the death warrant for Davis.

The signatures were gathered worldwide.

"This is going to damage the state if this thing goes through without using every angle to make sure justice is done. That's all we are asking, just for justice to prevail," said one Davis supporter.

Chisolm says the district attorney's office does not have the power to withdraw an execution order.

1. Not directly, as I understand it, but a DA who calls for a case to be reopened
will certainly shame a governor into stopping an execution.

3. Unfortunately, Gov cant stop it in GA
only the board of pardons, who passed on clemency yesterday and again rejected a re-consideration this morning, has the power to stop it (short of the last ditch evidentiary hearing).

our fucking state will no doubt reap what it has sown with this tortured case and perversion of "justice"

6. I'm not really sure
The matter already went up to the US Supreme Court who remanded back to the state where an evidentiary hearing last year rejected the recantation statements by the witnesses.

As for the GA Supreme Court, I dont know either.

Board of Pardons was his last and best chance, barring a last minute decision from the petition filed earlier today.

2. I read that only the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles can
stop it now. Don't know if that's true or not.

10. No problem, just trying to spread the info so that people can
call if they want to.
