James Byrd’s killer: 'I’d do it all over again' .
kind of hard to feel sorry for people who say things like this :(

HOUSTON—Beneath the guard towers and behind the razor wire of a Texas prison, Lawrence Brewer lifts his arm to display his racist tattoos.

“Like a cross burning and an intertwined KKK,” he explains, showing off the images cut into his flesh that turned his body into a billboard for hate.

Along a lonely country road in East Texas, something horrible happened. And yet, the man who’s facing execution for the crime still says he didn’t commit murder, and that he was just going along with friends for a ride. He said that he wouldn’t do anything differently.

“As far as any regrets, no, I have no regrets,” Brewer says. “No, I’d do it all over again, to tell you the truth.”

1. I do not believe in the death penalty, but if you have one shouldn't you
have to die the same way one kills someone?

19. Why? Wouldn't that just reenforce the notion that the DP is for revenge
rather than for public safety?

I am also very much opposed to the DP.

5. Its not about feeling sorry for him
For me being against the death penalty isn't about the guilt or innocence, likability or hatred of any particular person.

For me it is the deeply held belief that murder is wrong. That we are diminished as a society for giving the state the authority to kill someone in cold blood. That justice is not served by seeking vengeance.

15. uh, he said that he was not the killer
just a dude riding in a truck.

The only thing he said he "would do all over again" is ride in a truck with Shawn Allen Berry amd John William King. Berry was the guy who drove the truck and he only got life in prison (and he also claimed that the other two were responsible). Because he was not a known white supremacist he only got life in prison.

So if wiki can be believed, Lawrence Russell Brewer is apparently going to be put to death because of his racist beliefs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_James_Byrd,_Jr.

21. I am just pointing out what he said
He never said that he would kill Byrd all over again. He said that he would not do anything different, but he also said that all he did was ride in the truck. To say that he says he would drag Byrd to his death all over again, does not fit what he actually said.
