Mark Cuban. "The Most Patriotic Thing You Can Do. Pay Your Taxes."
Edited on Tue Sep-20-11 07:15 PM by madinmaryland
..snip

So be Patriotic. Go out there and get rich. Get so obnoxiously rich that when that tax bill comes , your first thought will be to choke on how big a check you have to write. Your 2nd thought will be “what a great problem to have”, and your 3rd should be a recognition that in paying your taxes you are helping to support millions of Americans that are not as fortunate as you.

In these times of “The Great Recession” we shouldn’t be trying to shift the benefits of wealth behind some curtain. We should be celebrating and encouraging people to make as much money as they can. Profits equal tax money. While some people might find it distasteful to pay taxes. I don’t. I find it Patriotic.

Hmmm. Wonder what the former owner of the Texas Rangers would think about a Dallas sports team owner saying something like this.

1. I like Mark Cuban
I have a feeling he is behind a lot of the anonymous big donors to charity in this area, and I like the way he is willing to eat crow when he screws up

2. Rare among pro-sports franchise owners. Somehow, I don't think he would
ever have shrub sitting next to him at a Mavericks game. Though maybe if you asked him, he would allow you to sit next to him if you promised to give shrub a good asskicking!! :D

15. Some of his donations are a way of getting around the NBA salary cap, which I totally support
He spent 100K renovating a park in my town, just because one of his players grew up here.

Cuban's smart enough to know that happy employees are more loyal and productive.

I wish more bosses were like him.

4. Oh no an actual self-made ultra-capitalist shows the GOP that they are full of $h!t
Cuban sold trash bags door-to-door as a teenager (he got a great deal on a bulk buy)
Cuban paid his tuition one semester at Indiana with a chain letter
Cuban founded a IT/database company without having ever owning a computer. He legendarily pulled all nighters reading about and writing code that were new to him that morning.
Unable to hear Indiana basketball games he created what became broadcast.com carrying sporting events on the radio. Yahoo or someone like that bought him out for $800 million. No negotiations, they offered and he took the money and ran.

Bought the Mavericks. Tried to buy the Dodgers (nice move MLB). He has produced several movies including "Enron: the smartest guys in the room" and "Good Night and Good Luck"

5. Soooooo, I take it he supports the Buffett rule?
He's kind of a flamboyant character, and if I'm not mistaken, a Bush donor too (Ranger/Cowboy whatever they're called).

6. Buffett, the Google Guy, now Cuban.
I don't think they'll be getting their Billionaire's Ball invites this year.

10. Those who shill for those (real people and fake people (corporations)) not paying their fair
and equitable share of income taxes must be unpatriotic scum by this measure, and I wholly agree. :patriot:

12. The "paid our taxes" line jumped out at me from the Skynard song.
This from the later Johnny Van Zant version of the band. It really struck me that they would site paying taxes in a patriotic song. Pretty good tune too. That line will keep it from being a teabagger anthem.

"Red White And Blue"

We don't have no plastic L.A. Frynds,
ain't on the edge of no popular trend.
Ain't never seen the inside of that magazine GQ.
We don't care if you 're a lawyer, or a texas oil man,
or some waitress busting ass in some liquor stand.
If you got Soul
We hang out with people just like you

My hair's turning white,
my neck's always been red,
my collar's still blue,
we've always been here
just trying to sing the truth to you.
Yes you could say
we've always been,
Red, White, and Blue

Ride our own bikes To Sturgis
we pay our own dues,
smoking camels, drinking domestic BREWS
You want to know where I have been
just look at my hands
Yeah, I've driven by the White House,
Spent some time in jail.
Momma cried but she still wouldn't pay my bail.
I ain't been no angel,
But even God, he understands.

My hair's turning white,
my neck's always been red,
my collar's still blue,
we've always been here
just trying to sing the truth to you.
Yes you could say
we've always been,
Red, White, and Blue

Yeah that's right!

My Daddy worked hard, and so have I,
paid our taxes and gave our lives
to serve this great country
so what are they complaining about

Yeah we love our families, we love our kids
you know it is love that makes us all so rich
That's where were at,
If they don't like it they can just
get the HELL out!

Yeah!

My hair's turning white,
my neck's always been red,
my collar's still blue,
we've always been here
just trying to sing the truth to you.
Yes you could say
we've always been,
Red, White, and Blue

oh..oh..Red, White, and Blue....

Red, White, and Blue

oh..oh....Red, White, and Blue
