Troy Davis to be executed after parole board denies clemency

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/troy-davis-executed-parole-board-denies-clemency-131916604.html

A Georgia parole board has denied clemency to Troy Davis, the death-row inmate whose case attracted international attention amid what supporters say are significant doubts over his guilt. With the failure of Davis' last-ditch appeal, announced Tuesday morning, he appears all but certain to be executed by lethal injection Wednesday at 7 p.m.

"He's guilty," Joan MacPhail-Harris, the widow of the Savannah cop who Davis was convicted of killing, told reporters Monday before the board announced its decision. "We need to go ahead and execute him."

Davis, 41, was convicted of the 1989 murder of Mark Allen MacPhail, an off-duty Savannah, Ga. police officer. MacPhail, who was running to the aid of a homeless man being pistol-whipped, was shot three times in a Burger King parking lot before he could draw his weapon.

2. THE WIDOW wants revenge, blood any body's blood!
The Board of Parole and Probations issued a defiant statement yesterday, saying that is was their decision and theirs alone that would decide Davis' fate. That was when I knew, the world pleas for mercy for the many fell on deaf ears. That hearing yesterday was a farce, that the board had to endure in order to "LOOK LIKE IT WAS SEEKING JUSTICE". They had made up their minds ahead of time.

8. I will never understand this thought process.
I have been a victim of a violent crime and so have people I know. I want the right person convicted and punished, not just "someone" punished. Of course I have always been against the death penalty.

18. When I worked to repeal capital punishment in Maryland, many of the advocates I worked closely with
were Murder Victim's Survivors themselves.

Regardless, this goes beyond even the death penalty itself and is an issue of innocence.

5. "He's guilty." Assuming he did it...
...is it really accurate to say "he's guilty," present tense, when the crime happened 22 years ago? Is he STILL guilty? I realize guilt is a legal status that attaches to aperson upon a court finding of guilt, so I'm asking in the moral sense of the word. I don't think it is a stretch to ask that because in most people's minds including the victim's wife, legal guilt certainly has a large, moral component to it.

6. This is horrible...
...and I am ashamed of my US citizenship when I read this.

"Beyond a Reasonable Doubt", and definitely Troy Davis' case is now loaded with doubt, after the witnesses recanted, and even pointed to the real murderer. This is a travesty of justice, that stinks of racism.

I am also against the death penalty no matter what. What the widow says is normal, as she was understandably devastated by the death of her husband.
However, she is wrong in thinking that killing someone else will give her relief. It will not.

10. Justice.
Served.
tired of the guilty all of a sudden becoming completely innocent - framed/did nothing wrong

Fabrications by the anti-death penalty crowd.
At the cost of the murdered and innocent.

12. When are we going to be honest about eyewitness testimony?
Anyone and everyone who has dealt with the issue acknowledges it is the WEAKEST form of evidence.
