Tommy Thompson Ends Speculation, Could Face Tammy Baldwin in Senate Race
Rep. Tammy Baldwin will face a name that Wisconsin voters know well in her bid to become the state's senator, the first openly gay senator in history.

Former four-term governor Tommy Thompson told a local radio station today that he's running for U.S. Senate. If he wins the Republican nomination, the former secretary of Health and Human Services will be a formidable candidate with name recognition from a career of service. But he hasn't won elected office since 1998, and his last campaign was for president of the United States.

Thompson isn't formally announcing his campaign yet. But at least he's ended the ambiguity about whether he would enter the fray.

"An announcement will be coming very soon," Thompson told WTMJ. "We're doing it in steps because that's what the federal law requires.”

1. She's young, he's a geezer
She's good looking, he isn't.

She's smart, he's crafty.

She's honest, he's a crony capitalist.

She's a lesbian, he's a skirt chaser while being "married."

She's running to make a difference, he's running because he is bored (and possibly because his long time mistress died a few years ago).

She has a real future, he's on the slide.

She's pleasant while being serious, he's a "fun guy."

He will win, because Wisconsin has sipped over to the dark side and he has been crafty enough to distance himself from Snott Walker and hark back to when times were better in this state and people have forgotten all his spending to make himself look good enough for W to choose him as VP.

First he has to get by Neuman - and he will, because the big money will reflexively go to him from his connections through the years.

I despair for Wisconsin.
