4. Very simple. He knows he has zero chance, and he's in for the
fight of his life to retain his seat in Congress. I can't imagine why anyone would try to run against the President. It isn't happening in 2012.

25. However you look at it, he's got his work cut out.
People of two minds about that race. Two districts now conflict to create one. Which Democrat is better? I will leave that to people who live in those districts/that district. It's their decision, not mine.

In any case, Kucinich doesn't have a prayer of primarying President Obama successfully, so the point is moot.

this new district...

On Edit, I will be voting for Marcy Kaptur.

I have had the pleasure of working with Dennis here in Cuyahoga County when I was the treasurer of the county party. He taught me the value of grass root organization and he also taught me the power of image. He defended me when others were against me and I will always respect his political savvy.

But Ms. Kaptur, who I also had the pleasure of meeting in that same role, is a true populist who is also realistic and pragmatic enough to get things done. She isn't the grandstander that DK is, but she gets the job done...

and productive members of Congress ever! She is also the longest serving woman in Congress, period.

If I could vote for her, I would.

60. Republicans are consolidating nearby Democratic-dominated congressional districts.
What happens is that the lines are redrawn so much so that you may end up with two or more adjacent districts being consolidated. When that happens, you get Democrats running against each other, where previously they may have faced a weak challenger in the primary, a weak Republican candidate, or ran unopposed. The Republicans have been going after Dennis for many years now, trying to get rid of him. There was a rumor of him leaving Ohio and running for Congress in Washington state. But, of course, that doesn't look likely. Instead, he'll face Marcy Kaptur, who is an amazing congresswoman, very effective, one of the most popularly-elected Democrats in Congress, and the longest serving woman in Congress.

As much as I love Dennis, Marcy will beat him with hands tied behind her back. Poor Dennis. Bad for all of us: we lose a Liberal Stalwart in Congress. Very sad.

See, this is what happens when Democrats don't vote. :(

38. Actually...the new seat belongs to no-one. It is a line on a map.
It does comprise parts of the seats that are held by Kaptur and Kucinich. The voters will decide which person they feel best represents them. To say a seat "belongs" to any one person is just foolish, aside from being completely false.

53. Except, Kaptur didn't high tail it to Washington just in case the redistricting wasn't favorable.
Instead he believes the gerrymandering is "http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2011/09/dennis_kucinich_sees_new_distr.html">an amazing turn of events."

No words.

posters on DU a way to shit on a working member of the democratic party who is standing for re election, in opposition of the DU rules?
when all the democratic party reps are up for re election this year who will everyone who demands "unity or else" shit on then?
the tactic of attacking other dems to defend the top will have to come to an end when all those democrats in the house are standing for re election.
food for thought

....he would severely trounce Barack in ALL the primaries....Dennis the Progressive would beat and humiliate the incumbent Conserva-Dem so badly that it would drive the overwhelming majority of African Americans back into the Republican Party....

....Dennis, being a compassionate kind man and an astute politician, realizes the Republicans would sail to a colossal victory in November with their new found majority....Republicans would rush to cannibalize the economy and country bringing untold hardship to the very African Americans (and Progressives) Dennis has worked his entire life to help and support....

....the pain in Dennis' heart would be unbearable and crushing; he's too great of a statesman to ever let anything this heinous happen....
