3. It's called "learned helplessness"...
You can reduce an animal or a human to a quivering lump of protoplasm by just randomly fucking with them enough in a situation where they either have no control over their own situation or feel that way..

That's pretty much what's happened to any progressive who's been watching politics for lo these last thirty years now.

6. It's called "Fool me twice, shame on me."
Hard to get that hope up again. But this was the first speech that resonated with me in a very long time. I don't know why I should believe him, but I'm hopeful.
