5. What is your plan for all the soldiers coming back to no jobs?
Point them toward the nearest bridge to go live under?

Or do you have another plan for them?

8. Really...that is a reason to stay at war?
Maybe they could rebuild the roads, teach the kids, grow clean food, invent clean water and air purification systems.

Trust me I know what the young people are going through right now and eternal war is going to drive them further into the hole.

10. Actually, I do think that is a reason we are staying at war
It is a jobs program.

Didn't used to be that way. I had the military, Ford and a bunch of other corporations trying to recruit me and my fellow students while we were still in high school in 1973.

Which one you think I went with?

I was working at Ford two months before I graduated high school. Month after I turned 18 they hired me making top union wages and benefits. I was making more money and had better benefits than my teachers were getting before I graduated.

11. It is a 'jobs ' program only in the fact that they have crippled the economy..
in order to make the military the only option for employment for young people and now it is impossible to not reenlist due to the lack of jobs as you have noted. Even the college graduates who have tried to duke it out on the outside eventually give in and join the military. I'm not saying decrease the size of the military but bring them home. There is plenty of rebuilding to do here.

It was a good feeling to know that if we lost our jobs we could find another one. Now the young people...hell the middle age people don' t know from one week to the next what the employment picture will be. How can people buy houses and cars and take out school loans when they don't know what the future holds. These are difficult times to say the least!

12. I need to find out who the "they", is in your subject line before I can comment
The "they", that you are thinking of may not be the same "they", that I am thinking of when assessing blame for crippling the economy.

I want to get that clarified before I reply to your comment.

My world came crashing down during the 1980's and I never recovered from that financially.

Lot of people back then were completely happy with Reagan and his "Morning In America!", bullshit as my job was being moved overseas.

That has caught up with us now. Didn't start in 2000 with Bush as a lot of people think. About 20 years before then.

"Morning In America!", has arrived.

It has been a long road for sure. Many of the architects of this mess are still among us unfortunately.

14. I would like to see them brought home - kept in the military here until
we can get this mess straightened out. You know a standing army. They would get pay they spend here at home instead of overseas and they would not add to the unemployment rate. At least they would not be being killed and killing others. If and when we ever manage to build a new economy that will work then they would be integrated into it as they could. I think Israel has an army that does many things within their country besides going to war. Kind of a 2 tier service program. Military training and public service. This could include training for civilian jobs.

21. Ummm soldiers needing jobs is not a reason to stay at war.
Seriously...think about what you just said. You realize people die in war right? War is a BAD thing.... not an employment opportunity...

6. Isn't It Funny
That only the rich are entitled to their fair share? Isn't it funny that they have options, bonus's,perks but the rest of us who PAY are stuck with benefits that the rich call entitlements? Sitting on their throne of green they get all cranky about having to cough up more tax dollars but they lose no sleep over the day labor people just struggling to survive to pay more in taxes while getting less in benefits every year.

7. When Repukes scream "Class Warfare", we should scream "Class Fairness"
Of course, one could argue that the very EXISTENCE

of "classes" isn't "fair" to start with, but

I doubt the Repukes will want to open up

THAT can of worms.

9. I would say either rob our savings account or make them
pay their own way. But yes, it's down to our lives or some of their money.

That money in social security is fully funded by our earnings and they want to steal it to pay their bills.

15. We are being fed the incredible, stinking pile of horseshit
that getting ANY revenue from the wealthiest Americans justifies cutting the safety net for our poor and elderly.

"He will veto any bill that takes one dime from the Medicare benefits seniors rely on WITHOUT asking the wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations to pay their fair share..."

Fuck them. Just fuck them.

20. There is only a "choice" because washington is making that the choice.
There are lots of other things that could be done, should be done, instead of cutting programs that assist the working class.

Taxing the wealthy, closing corporate loop holes, ending corporate welfare, ending the wars, ending monetary gifts to countries that do not need them, etc etc etc
