#TakeWallStreet update
Edited on Sun Sep-18-11 09:47 AM by Coexist
So my kids are there, photos and videos to come.. but my daughter just called me and I thought I'd share. The riot police came, but did not keep them from staying. Those who stayed have bonded and its good people. Local people have been coming through this morning, handing out water and food. The protesters are currently heading over to a get an update on today's events. It was pretty damn cold for those two Florida kids last night, but they are in good spirits!

They did ask that people work to keep them in the public eye, so rating up and sharing articles, using #takewallstreet on Twitter when you do, is appreciated by those who slept on the street.

1. I thought about everyone in those over-night temperatures last night.
A deep heart-felt thank you to yours and everyone's friends or family for working to try to give expression to what so many of us have been feeling and saying for so very long. Looking forward to more news and updates as the day goes forward.

Love the pic! K & R.

11. Anyone find it ironic that the "Occupy Wall St" live feed is brought to you by the Visa Black Card?

23. Not unless they are directly associated with the protesters.
It was a smart thing to do to get ad revenue so I don't find it ironic for a business to take advantage of a situation they know people are interested in. They've been getting thousands of viewers which is good for ad revenue.

The MSM is owned by big corporations but if they would cover the protest, I don't think people would refuse to speak to them. They get what they want, and the protesters get what they want. Don't see anything wrong with it, no!

5. The cops won't do anything untl late tonight or early tomorrow
and then they'll clear the area to make it safe for nervous pink men in three piece suits when they go to do more business as usual against us on Monday.

Stay safe if you're out there.

14. When will the multitude strike back with force? That's the question. Is this it? If not, when?
Hundreds of thousands will be needed to converge in one place at one time --this one should have been targeted for Monday morning -- doing it over the weekend only gave them time to organize against it.

I'm too old for this crap again but I don't want to give up hope that there are some smarter organizers than this out there who can actually create a scene that's impossible for Network News to ignore.

I'm just sayin'.......

6. There were a number of reports on NY TV news shows this morning
Demonstrators looked to be mostly in their '20s. News reporters said there were about 5000 yesterday evening, but that the numbers had thinned out by this morning. Apparently they were camping in and around Zuccotti Park, which is a couple blocks SE of the WTC.

9. People are probably more upset by the Port Authority toll hike
This morning, the cash toll to cross from NJ to NY was raised from $8 to $12. This applies to all the bridges and tunnels from Outerbridge Crossing at the south end of Staten Island to the Tappan Zee Bridge on the NY Thruway.

They are stiffing the commuters to pay for the egregious overbuilding going on at the World Trade Center.

There is no lack of class A office space in the TriState area, and we do not need memorials and white elephant office buildings.

morning because that is the make or break hour. That is when the WS workers are coming in and when the police are most likely to try to get them to leave. We will see.

We should have occupied WS back in the 60s. They were the real problem even back then. War for money.

21. Please keep us updated..
many of the live streams are down and the twitters are packed with trolls

it is hard to tell what is going on.

Tell your kids to have a small bottle of 1/2 malox and 1/2 water mixed together, and then also a soaked bandana w/apple cider vinegar that is kept in a plastic bag.
It helps neutralize pepper spray and tear gas.

also to make sure and have their id on them. even if they don't plan on getting arrested, cause you never know if you might be caught in the round up. Having an id processes you through faster then if you don't have one.

I'm sure they will be fine.. it is just nice precautions I wish I had during the RNC 08 protests.. and I wasn't arrested but the gas was everywhere.
