Today is Constitution Day! A good day for protesting!

They are playing an MLK speech on the right to protest!

Looks like a documentary. Keith Olbermann recording now talking about the corruption in government.

Footage was shown of past historical demonstrations.

Keith: Where is the outrage to come from? From You!

Saying they will be there 'all day, all week'

I'm not sure if this is what they are watching right now.

Back to live stream.

Let's Wake'm Up! All Day! All Week!

Some Anonymous masks in the crowd.

They had a message from Anonymous earlier. They asked the police 'whose side will you be on'?

Reports that police are closing off some streets.

Getting support from other countries:

IN MADRID, SPAIN - CITIZENS SUPPORTING DEMONSTRATERS ENCAMPED AT WALL STREET

Meanwhile there are other countries whose citizens have joined in the protest primarily Spain, demonstraters in Madrid are attempting to take peaceful action to the streets.

Good question!

"Police are reduced to protecting 'bullshit'"?

And people surrounding the Wall St. Bull

They were chanting 'Wall Street is our Street!

Speaker: "We're going to make Wall St. our Tahrir Square"

Message from Anonymous saying they will occupy Wall St. for 'months'!

It's Global!

This channel will feature live streams from global non violent revolution spreading across the globe, with the first broadcasts from Wall Street Occupation in NYC that will start on Saturday, September 17, 2011. The channel will also feature live stream from solidarity protests and events in Spain, Greece, France, Belgium, Iceland and other places around the gblobe

Live Video Reports and Content about the Global Revolution which started with the North African Spring, and is extending to every country around the World.

About time the people went Global. Corporations have been doing it for decades!

Wouldn't it be great if those blockades were to keep out the Wall Street Crooks instead of their victims?

Why you no in jail

Good question!

Nice music on livestream right now! http://www.livestream.com/globalrevolution

1. Wow, great Keith Olbermann Special Comment being played right now.
Urging people to 'rise up'. Saying we are at a tipping point right, the window of time is short and we need to take advantage of it now.

This would be a great thing for him to cover since the rest of the media probably won't.

89. Help the protesters, send them food.
Published 2011-09-13 03:27:57 UTC by chris

"Several people have asked: if I can't make it to New York City for the occupation, but still want to help, what can I do?

One of many answers is to support those who are at the occupation on Wall Street by calling various delivery places in the area and having food sent to the site. Not only will you be providing food to hungry people, you will also be supporting local establishments as opposed to corporate chains. A list has been compiled of several pizzerias, health food places, and delis around the occupation area from which you can call and order food. The list can be found at here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/11aEYlrHbWsYw9UFLmnR3V62NRdN0EtN5aVFJs_YXbg8/edit?hl=en_US&pli=1#

Finally, for those who ARE able to make it to the occupation, there will be food available that we will have bought through your generous donations. However, we'd also like to ask that people bring a little bit of food themselves, enough that can theoretically be shared with at least three people. Not only will it help us hold out for longer, it will go a long way in helping you get to know each other a little better as well."

Sorry to interrupt but I thought more people would see this if I put it near the top.

20. Protestors put 'Foreclosed' sign with US Flag
on flagpole.

Wall St. Protesters Shinny Up Flagpole, and Police Aren’t Amused

Officers strapped on their own harnesses and hard hats, and one, Shawn Soler, 32, leaned a ladder against Ms. Corbin’s pole and climbed up. He spent several minutes talking to Ms. Corbin, gesturing with his hands, occasionally nodding and shrugging and patting the pole with his gloved hand. Finally, Ms. Corbin lowered herself onto the ladder, unclipped her harness and climbed down to be handcuffed and placed in a police van.

The other climber, identified by organizers as Cy Waggoner, climbed down mostly by himself, using a ladder for the last 10 feet, and was similarly arrested. Onlookers cheered. The van drove away.

Police arrest protestor Cy Waggoner one of the flagpole shimmiers. They are going to remove the 'foreclosed' sign as soon as a crane arrives, according to the article.

12. An article in one of these threads (damn, now I gotta go find it), equated
the Day of Rage with Vietnam. Setup for 'dirty hippie' comparisons?

I found it interesting they didn't equate it with the various Days of Rage in North Africa and the Middle East (yep, still protests of various nature going on in Middle East even if not getting much coverage in US).

13. I don't think that will work this time. This is about something
all Americans care about. Wish they all cared about our wars, but they don't really. But they do care about the loss of jobs and the money given to Wall St. rather than helping the people.

I do not doubt there will be huge efforts to make the protestors look scary and threatening though.

14. I was just getting ready to edit with the link. I'll put here instead.
It was in a reply by spanone link

Some referred to it as the United States Day of Rage, an apparent reference to a series of disruptive protests against the Vietnam War held in Chicago in 1969.

Ooooo, a twofer. They got to throw in Chicago, too. That looks like a divide and conquer.

I'm way too paranoid.

I hope you are correct. I'm not sure how the reaction will go if it becomes violent.

I'd like to see a national, general strike start coming out of this.

17.  Day of Rage was used for the N.African
uprisings, (and Iraqis called their protests 'a day of rage also) and they had every reason to be enraged. But here, people may not see that connnection. A good reporter, (do we have any left?) would make that clear.

I hope it doesn't turn violent, but if they disrupt Wall St's business, it is likely to, not from the protestors though.

Maybe they will be shamed into covering it eventually. It's early though, so we'll see. If it does last into the work week, I think they will have to cover it.

43. Protestors blocking 'red carpet' event on Wall St. and riot
Edited on Sat Sep-17-11 07:02 PM by sabrina 1
police on horseback have arrived, according to tweeters.

Al Jazeera stream is following events also. Nothing much on US MSM.

http://stream.aljazeera.com/story/us-protesters-rally-occupywallstreet

What started as an online campaign has translated into action on the ground, with protest organisers calling for thousands of people to "occupy Wall Street" on Saturday.

"On the 17th of September, we want to see 20,000 people flood into lower Manhattan, set up beds, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months," organisers wrote on the www.occupywallst.org website.

"Like our brothers and sisters in Egypt, Greece, Spain, and Iceland, we plan to use the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic of mass occupation to restore democracy in America. We also encourage the use of nonviolence to achieve our ends and maximize the safety of all participants."

The leaderless movement includes hacktivist group Anonymous among the protesters. The group released a video online calling on people to take to the streets on September 17.

I think they exceeded their goal so far.

That first picture, the despair the woman feels is obvious even without seeing her face.

This is a crime, thanks for the photos.

The Wall St protestors' Assembly is asking for goals for this new movement, these photos make me think that one of them should be to stop Foreclosures, NOW. They are not necessary and not helping. There ARE ways to help people stay in their homes.

In a sense, they were victims of corporate greed which has trickled down to subhuman landlords.

46. The greed is pernicious and may be the only thing that has 'trickled
down'. For $100 dollars! A country that doesn't take care of its most vulnerable citizens cannot claim to be the 'greatest' as we so arrogantly continue to do. Those children will never forget. I hope it they have found a place to live.

47. A couple of questions and a comment.........
Did they get their 20k people today? And are they intent on staying? Because that's what it will take. Wisconsin's protests started relatively small, just hundreds of people and grew to thousands. These types of things build if they go on long enough.

And my comment: SOLIDARITY!

51. I don't think there is an official count yet, but twitter comments
are claiming 50,000. I have no idea if that is true or not. I believe they are planning to stay overnight tonight and the organizers are saying they will be there all of next week. Anonymous says 'months'.

They are setting goals in NYC tonight in an assembly they are holding. I have the link somewhere to the organizers' website, will post it when I find it again. Hopefully it will be updated.

Okay, here is the organizing site https://occupywallst.org/ As you can see on the sidebar at the top, they are asking people for suggestions as to how to go forward, what goals they should have.

The photo below is from tonight where they protested at a Red Carpet event. But the main focus of today's event was to set their goals. I am hoping they will update their page tomorrow and I agree, they do have to stay there but if they do, it will get nasty, I am sure.

Sorry, lost the info on foreign solidarity protests.

Here's the link to the organizers https://occupywallst.org/. It looks like it has been very well organized, and they are planning on more than just this weekend. Eg, they are asking for help with feeding the protesters.

It's the weekend so many of the major news organizations are not working, eg, RT, I thought they might have some coverage, but so far, I don't see anything from them either.

103. About 300 slept in the park, from most of the reports (social media)
I've seen. Also from the videos and photos that seems to be about right.

I have seen numbers all over the place for the protest yesterday, but nothing confirmed. They range from 50,000 to 1,000.

I think it was probably closer to 1,000 than the higher numbers. That would mean they did not reach their goal of 20,000. So, I hope they have a core of people who can stay there and that the numbers grow as word gets out. On twitter I saw a lot of people asking 'what is occupywallstreet' having seen it trending but they had not heard of it. Many said they would have been there had they known.

They have the right idea and I really hope they manage to create a movement and get more and more people there each weekend. They should reach out to the unemployed, the Unions etc.

106. I agree that connnecting with the Unions and the Uemployed eg
(there are organizations for the unemployed) and most importantly as they were most affected by Wall St. corruption, the foreclosed-on should be a priority. But people can contact those groups themselves and see if they are interested. This was really just a beginning, to meet and plan for the 'occupation'. So, hopefully they did get some good ideas and the numbers will grow.

I was not there, sorry if I gave that impression, too far away unfortunately or I would have been, but I do wish them well tomorrow. They don't need huge numbers tomorrow. And as I understand it, they have trained people for this kind of confrontation over the past few weeks. I doubt they will get anywhere close to the Wall St. Gamblers though, if this weekend is any example. The police presence was huge and they had blocked off any way that the protesters could get close to them.

Wrt to donations, they have an official site https://occupywallst.org/ I haven't seen any requests for money for those arrested, but they do have a lot of information on what do once that happens.

They also have info on how to donate food and which restaurants will deliver to them.

The owner of the park they slept in last night, has now said he wants them out by today, so I do not know where they will go tonight.

Among the group was Javier Dorado, a law professor from Spain who compared the protesters with the mass "indignant" demonstrations in his country against high unemployment, welfare cuts and corruption.
"This is a global phenomenon that is taking place in Europe and many countries," Dorado said.
The protest came as the United States struggles to overcome an economic crisis marked by a huge budget deficit that has triggered cuts in the public service sector while unemployment hovers stubbornly above nine percent.
