Georgia Mayor Shuts Down Rocky Horror As Too Risqué
In a case of life imitating art (or at least a Glee storyline from last year), political officials in Georgia have shut down a community theater's production of The Rocky Horror Show after deeming it "too risqué," reports Entertainment Weekly.

A production of the 1973 satirical musical, a sexualized send-up of sci-fi and horror movies that was turned into a still-adored cult film in 1975, was slated to open October 27 at the city-owned Carrollton Cultural Arts Center. After viewing a video clip from rehearsal, Wayne Garner, the mayor of Carrollton, Ga. called the show too risqué, overruled the center's board, and canceled it. “I found it very offensive, not in keeping with the community of Carrolton, if you will,” Garner told Atlanta’s NBC-11 news. "I know this community well and if that play was allowed to proceed, we'd be run out of town." The director and cast of the production plan to find private sponsors and produce the play on a different stage in the city.

1. I've attended a high school performing RHS. The kids loved it and so did
the audience. Nobody seemed "corrupted" when the final curtain came down.

5. What gets me is if the people don't want to see it they don't have to,
but the people that do want to see it are just out of luck. Needless to say thats one stupid Mayor.

17. The Full Monty here
in Florida -- it never was closed down, but lots of flak. Also one of the leads, a very popular high school drama teacher, was told he either had to quit the show or lose his teaching job. Despite a letter writing campaign in support, TPTB stood firm and the man had no choice but to quit the show. The 'illusion' of nudity was too much for the prudes.

2. After being exiled to GA for 5 years, I can say....
....that fucking state is a waste of land. Nothing good comes out of Georgia.

7. So, did I dodge a bullet?
My job was transferred there. I had to choose between unexpected early retirement and moving to Atlanta. I chose retirement. I hope I did the right thing, sounds like I probably did.

8. Dude, that was the best choice you've ever made...I was transfered for work...
and spent everyday after that trying to get transferred ANYWHERE other than there. Luckily, I got a chance to come back home, but I was looking as far away as Chicago and st. Louis just to get out of GA.

9. Good to know.
I think it would have been a huge shock for someone from liberal Minneapolis. Everybody I've talked to who've moved there already just hates it.

29. I am stuck in Arizona until 2017
That's when my twin daughters turn 18. I am co-parenting, following a long, horrible, expansive divorce and I am stuck here until they go to college, at least. So 2017 is a minimum.

I am from France, by the way.

28. You were lucky to get out of there. My cousin's husband was transferred
to Savannah from CA ... they HATED it. They tried every way they could to get out. Even his boss tried to fast track him out but couldn't and they would have been glad to go ANYWHERE. My cousin never made it out, last year she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and died this last May. :-(

And I'm happy for those who like where they live. I like it where I live. I don't think I'd like Atlanta.

23. Richt's days are numbered. But Georgia football transcends coaches and players,

Being a fan of Georgia football is a little like being a deadhead. Its about the experience that crosses over years, decades, and even longer

Aren't you the one who thought Hurricane Irene was just an over-hyped little breeze?

Like you have any credibility on any topic.

4. Well, I hope they find a new venue and sponsorship.
This is not atypical of such cities. Someone told Mr. Mayor that there were transvestites portrayed and he said, "Oh, no you don't." I would not have booked this into a city-owned venue in the first place. Too much risk of something like this happening.

even though the rest of us are in the 21st! I've seen that movie so many times I've lost count, would go see it at least once a week. I LOVE it!!!
