Eleanor Mondale, daughter of Walter Mondale, dies at 51

Our condolences to Vice President Mondale and his family.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Eleanor Mondale, the vivacious daughter of former Vice President Walter Mondale who carved out her own reputation as an entertainment reporter, radio show host and gossip magnet, has died at her home in Minnesota. She was 51.

Family spokeswoman Lynda Pedersen said Mondale died Saturday. She had been diagnosed with brain cancer years earlier.

"Joan and I must report that our wonderful daughter, Eleanor Mondale Poling, after her long and gutsy battle against cancer, went up to heaven last night to be with her angel," the former vice president said in a statement emailed to friends. "Thank you for all your friendship, you will hear more about plans to celebrate her life soon."

17. We are the first generation to have lived most of our lives
in the "Better Living Through Chemistry" generation:(

Prior to WWII, most "things" in our lives were "natural":

wood floors, wool carpets, cotton drapes
clothes were linen, cotton, wool
shoes were leather or fabric
food was unprocessed, REAL food, cooked from scratch
toys were metal, wood, cloth

all those "miracle fabrics/materials" come with a side effect... a witches' brew of chemicals in the manufacturing process, unleashed into the soil, air, water

5. I remember she campaigned hard for her father in 1984--she was here in Madison
on campus. Fritz Mondale is a class act, too. It's the nations loss that he wasn't elected president.

6. I met Walter at the 2008 convention, such a sweet man, very sad.
I actually met him the first time as he was about to get out of his town car and step into a giant cow patty (its denver) I didn't realize it was him all I saw was a very nice shoe descending on some poop so I ran over and managed to stop him. Then I realize holy shit this is Walter Mondale, he was very cool. Then about an hour later I ended up sitting in the row behind him at a labor panel and he thanked me again and we chatted for a little bit.

He would have been viewed as a socialist by today's ReTHUGS. May he rest in peace.
