Rep. Steve King: Unemployment Insurance Has Created ‘A Nation Of Slackers’
http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2011/09/16/321373/steve-king-unemployed-slackers/ (video)

By Alex Seitz-Wald posted from ThinkProgress Economy on Sep 16, 2011 at 6:50 pm

Tea Party Rep. Steve King (R-IA) took to the House floor yesterday to give a diatribe against large swaths of of the social safety net, from food stamps to heating fuel subsidies, but reserved particular disdain for unemployment insurance, which he dismissed as “welfare for people that won’t work.” Via Political Correction:

KING: The United States of America borrows money and hands it to people and tells them, you don’t have to work for this. You don’t have to produce anything for this. We just want you to spend it. <...>

The former speaker of the House, Speaker Pelosi, has consistently said that unemployment checks are one of those reliable and immediate forms of economy recovery. <...> The 80 million Americans that are of working age but are simply not in the workforce need to be put to work. We can’t have a nation of slackers and then have me have to sit in the Judiciary Committee listening to them argue that there’s work that Americans won’t do, so we have to import people to do the work that Americans won’t do, and borrow money to pay the welfare for people that won’t work. That is a foolish thing for a nation to do. We’ve gotta get this country back to work and get those people out of the slacker rolls and onto the employed rol

5. I'll remember King's words the next time the Mississippi river floods
Edited on Fri Sep-16-11 07:49 PM by coalition_unwilling
the tri-cities area and Iowa slackers are asking for government handouts.

I've paid taxes all my life and I have never once agreed to my taxes going to support Republican slacker assholes in Iowa who are victims of the Mississippi River flooding, m'kay? Come to think of it, I never agreed that my taxes should pay Republican asshole farmers stipends to leave their lands fallow, in order to support higher agricultural prices. Those Repuke-ican farmers are just a bunch of slackers, don't you know?

King is best dealt with by his fellow Iowans, imho.

Edited on Fri Sep-16-11 09:10 PM by sam11111
Gov agency soundly refutes him. Not enough jobs for the jobless is the cause of unemployment. NEVER eno jobs even in WW2.

The LW activists oft don't know of the BLS data so don't refute the RW. Read my sig link pls.

12. So, is he pulling 5 million jobs out of his ass?
I've seen the tears and fear in people's eyes. And people would rather lose their house and have their kids drop out of college than work? Yeah, right.

If you lost your job through no fault of your own, can't find a new one because no one wants to hire the unemployed, you are already in despair. And then to have these idiots tell you that you are just a lazy slacker.

Maybe if the lack of health insurance doesn't get you they are hoping you'll just do yourself in.

17. So he'll be giving up his govt "entitlements" now to make a point?
Right...thought so.

These people are getting more and more disgusting every goddamn day. The depths they're going to to attack us is remarkable in its brazenness. Remarkable as well is the average Amuricans seeming acceptance of these royal screwings.

Obviously, King has proven over and over that he is a douche-bag of the highest order. The morans who vote for him deserve whatever shit he wants to rain down on them. Too bad the rest of his district has to suffer for their stupidity.

19. Flood his twitter account with
how you feel.

More illogical inhumanity from the right.

I am not a violent person, but why don't they all die and make the planet a better place to live. That would free up money and house seats.

Seriously though, without corporate money and the advantages of birth, most of those who want us to die would never get elected.

Message King here:
