Pat Robertson suggests: man should DIVORCE his wife with Alzheimer’s & find ANOTHER Woman
Pat Robertson’s Remarks on Alzheimer’s Stir Passions

.............

On his television show, “The 700 Club,” on Tuesday, Mr. Robertson, a prominent evangelical who once ran for president, took a call from a man who asking how he should advise a friend whose wife was deep into dementia and no longer recognized him.

“His wife as he knows her is gone,” the caller said, and the friend is “bitter at God for allowing his wife to be in that condition, and now he’s started seeing another woman.”

“This is a terribly hard thing,” Mr. Robertson said, clearly struggling to think his way through a wrenching situation. “I hate Alzheimer’s. It is one of the most awful things, because here’s the loved one — this is the woman or man that you have loved for 20, 30, 40 years, and suddenly that person is gone “

“I know it sounds cruel,” he continued, “but if he’s going to do something, he should divorce her and start all over again, but to make sure she has custodial care, somebody looking after her.”

2. Yeah, that "for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health" is all a bunch of bull, right?
A real family values Republican, that Pat Robertson.

3. Class act.
To paraphrase M. Twain, I don't wish death on anybody, but there sure are a few obituaries I'm looking forward to.

Whatever happened to "In sickness and in health"?

5. Yeah, Pat the Liquor Officer would think of something like that
"She can no longer perform her wifely duties of cooking, cleaning and sex? Trade her in on a newer model!"

Yeah, Pat, real nice sentiment. Can you imagine him meeting Michael Schiavo in a dark alley after saying this?

6. I'm guessing he won't advocate that a woman divorce her husband though. nt

7. So if my wife gives me shit, can I claim "She's not the woman I married"?
We'll call this a Pat Down Divorce Decree, or PDDD.

Maybe the 700 Club can setup up a Facebook App. You go online, answer a couple of questions, and bingo yer divorced! Since Robertson is a man of the cloth, it will all be legal and shit.

:sarcasm:

10. Not that I want to defend Robertson but..
In his defence, he wasn't necessarily saying you should always divorce someone with Alzheimer's, he was talking about the caller who had started seeing another woman because of his wifes condition and how he should make sure that she's taken care of if he is planning on seeing someone else.

Ugh, I feel dirty for defending him.

15. I read an article some years back written by a man who did divorce his first wife and remarry. The
couple visit his first wife, even though she no longer knows who he is. :( (And this happened when she was in her late 30s, I think. Very early onset!)

Alzheimer's is tragic and devastating. I watched it destroy my great grandmother, and then my grandfather. I understand the ideal of standing by your mate come what may, but I won't judge anyone in this case who can't do it.

11. Pat would, of course, NOT be so enthusiastic about divorce in a case like this if
the HUSBAND were the one with Alzheimer's. I guarantee you that if that were the case, he would be adamant that marriage vows not be broken.

The man is, at heart, a sexist pig.

12. Deplorable: Has he forgotten how Nancy Reagan stood by
Ronald Reagan to the bittersweet end????

Tell Robertson if this is his advice, he should give
up the practice. Has he read his scriptures lately.

14. She did owe him for getting her off the blacklist
Meanwhile he was busy putting his fellow union brothers ON the blacklist.

I wouldn't wish that disease on anyone, but I didn't feel too bad when I found out Ronnie got the brain rot. It was almost poetic justice for him making homeless out of the mentally ill.
