Support your local library, please.
Edited on Fri Sep-16-11 04:03 PM by Cerridwen
I love books. Not always what's in them; I actually love the object that is a book. And I love to read.

I also like music and watching video and enjoying others' art.

In tough times or good times, I can have access to that at my local library.

They also have free or low priced meeting rooms, children's reading areas, classes, and access to computers and printers, and wow, typing it out, I see it's quite a long list and I think I missed a few things.

If you're in a position to do so, please consider donating cash or new or used books or dvds or cds to your local library. My branches have used media sales to make a few bucks.

In my very biased opinion, I think libraries and those who work and associate with them, are some of the best examples of our tax dollars at work. I would also point out, they are proof that the honor system still works.

Many library systems are being cut, funding being reduced, buildings closed. Please support yours if you can.

1. Libraries are important parts of our communites
and without them, a key resource open to all goes. May I also say they are so often important resource centers and repositories for areas of special interest to many, like local history and genealogy.

4. I'm not allowed to go to anything with book sales anymore.
Not unless accompanied by an adult who will wrest my wallet from my hand and re-shelve the book.

LOL

7. LOL
:D

My family and friends would prefer I clear my book cases. We're moving in the next month or so and it's always my books that make them dread the move. I'm thinking I'll do the book move on my own. :)

8. Librarians also defied the Patriot Act,
filed ACLU lawsuits, and shredded records. Librarians are heroes

16. I remember that. My list of checked out books would cause someone
whiplash. I'm not sure what dhs would make of it.

12. Support?...not so much...
My local library charges $40.00 a year for a card (they're just across the county line). In my county the nearest library is miles away and about the size of a two car garage, but hey, they only charge $10.00 per year for a card.(Yes I pay the $40.00).

13. This is bullshit, 1620rock, we've had this discussion before.
You don't have to pay shit for your public library card, if you in fact live in Lexington, MI, as your profile claims.

From the Moore Public Library Information Page:

Library Cards

All residents of Michigan can receive free library cards. You will need a Michigan Driver's license or Michigan ID with your current address. The Moore Public Library serves all residents of the Village of Lexington and Worth Townships.

Come to the Circulation desk with a valid photo identification (driver's license, passport, state ID) that shows your proof of your residency.

Parents may not obtain cards for their children unless the children are present.

If your library card has been lost or stole, please call the library at (810) 359-8267. The fee for a replacement card is $1.00.

Please stop lying about having to pay to use your public library.

19. I work in a library...
We're right on a state border, and we charge $20 annually for out-of-state residents, (However if they can prove they own property in our state like a business, vacation cabin, hunting land, etc they can get a card for free.) However, all in-state residents are entitled to a free card, even if they live way the hell on the other side of the state

21. I've run into membership libraries a couple of times.
There are some libraries that aren't easily accessible by community members.

I don't at the moment remember where. But, I'm with you, they struck me as weird. Obviously not weird enough for my memory though. :)

18. Does $100 at their fundraising sale count?
Yeah, it's not that much, but it is what I can afford. At it is to a good cause. I absolutely love my local library.
