Colorado cat, missing 5 years, is found on NYC street

A calico cat named Willow, who disappeared from a home near the Rocky Mountains five years ago, was found Wednesday on a Manhattan street and will soon be returned to a family in which two of the three kids and one of the two dogs may remember her.

How she got to New York, more than 1,600 miles away, and the kind of life she lived in the city are mysteries.

But thanks to a microchip implanted when she was a kitten, Willow will be reunited in Colorado with her owners, who had long ago given up hope.

"To be honest, there are tons of coyotes around here, and owls," said Jamie Squires, of Boulder. "She was just a little thing, five and a half pounds. We put out the 'Lost Cat' posters and the Craigslist thing, but we actually thought she'd been eaten by coyotes."

12. My wild-assed guess of a hypothesis
The kitteh was found by a cat-loving long-distance truck driver, who took her on cross-country adventures. On a trip to NYC, she went exploring and got lost, leaving behind yet another forlorn human servant. Best guess I've got.

Next best guess: the story's utter bullshit. It's just a ploy foisted upon us by our shape-shifting space-reptilian overlords to entice the foolish humans to get 'chipped,' whereupon we'll get sorted like cattle for various & sundry purposes.

24. My guess: kitty got found by a person in the community who subsequently moved
to NYC, and then at some point she got outside in the Big Apple.

Doesn't have to be a trucker, IOW. People move cross-country all the time.

4. I'm glad they got the cat back
but this statement I find kind of chilling
"All our pets are microchipped," Squires said. "If I could microchip my kids, I would."

It's a sweet story...but cats are, uh...cats. I have a grey tabby that is virtually IDENTICAL to a grey tabby of mine that died years ago. I mean, we even keep calling her by the dead cat's name. It is like a total reincarnation of our former cat. Cats can look alike and act alike, just as people can. This is just another cat who looks like the missing cat and the family is all excited. But I don't believe for a minute that it's the same cat.

From a long-time cat lover.

8. hey atman, I think you missed the part about how the kitty had a microchip
implanted and that's how they identified her.

:hi:

17. I did miss that. My bad.
Okay...now it's a whole different story.

However, I still think my grey tabby is my previous tabby on one of her other nine lives.

7. The cat wanted to make it on Broadway, but ended up waiting on tables in the Garment District.
Common story. Of course, there was the time when a director wanted her to meet him at a seedy hotel...

10. She probably hitched some sort of ride
and it looks like somebody had been feeding her, at the very least.

Calico cats are always such wild women.

I don't let my kittehs out because of the coyotes. I can see why the family assumed this.

31. This makes me wonder if some of my own lost cats didn't go on to do great things.
I remember that beautiful half-Siamese who disappeared in 1983. Maybe she ended up on 5th Avenue!
