UNBELIEVABLE Capitol Hill building Ditching Energy-Efficient Bulbs

Why Is One House Office Building Ditching Energy-Efficient Bulbs?
Ryan J. Reilly | September 14, 2011, 6:50PM

The hallway on the first floor of the House Cannon building on Capitol Hill was noticeably brighter than the second floor for most of the day today. That's because the Architect of the Capitol is replacing modern energy-efficient 150-watt lightbulbs (photo to left) with traditional 250-watt lightbulbs because an unknown member of Congress complained.

-snip
"The lighting levels were identified as inadequate in the hallway and, as an interim measure, the light bulbs were swapped out temporarily," said AOC spokeswoman Eva Malecki. "They will be replaced by LED light bulbs, which are even more energy efficient than CFLs."

-snip
Energy-efficient lightbulbs -- "the little, squiggly, pig-tailed ones" -- have long been the subject of the GOP's scorn. Take Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY):

"I think there should be some self-examination from the administration on the idea that you favor a woman's right to an abortion, but you don't favor a woman or a man's right to choose what kind of light bulb, what kind of dishwasher, what kind of washing machine."

IS THIS THE GOP JOB CREATION PACKAGE? Adding manpower by removing CFL bulbs temporarily, replacing them with incandescents, then replacing those with LEDs. What a waste of time , manpower & money! May sure you catch the Ran Paul statement. MY HEAD HURTS!

Oh yeah here is numbers on the savings for the CFLs: a 2010 report, the energy-saving lighting saves 1.5 million kWh and $178,000 per year.

They need to identify the crybaby who complained
And then that member needs to tell the American workers why they have to tighten their belts but he or she doesn't have to put up with even the smallest of inconveniences.

4. If you have a 250 watt bulb, and replace it with a 150 watt equivalent, of course it'll be dimmer.

6. Nuts.. I'm glad, though they are going to go with LEDs...
But those 150 watt equivalent compact florescents aren't so bad, though some put out a more natural spectrum of light than others... and the fact they use the energy of a typical nightlight means they can stay on, if necessary. LEDs are clearly the future, but this is just silly.

7. All the lights in my house that stay on nearly continuously are CFL. The rest are incandescent.
I like to leave some lights on continuously for safety or security (hallway, front porch, back porch, cellar). CFL bulbs last longer and save me money in these applications. But I really prefer the warmth of incandescent bulbs so I use those everywhere else.

8. Mr. Peabody's coal company doesn't like energy efficient lighting.
When the coal companies squeal and whine, their minions in government do what they can to appease them.

12. they out sourced it to cronies who submitted a non-bid contract
worth millions. They didn't want any public service union types doing on the cheap.
