Probe surrounding Wis. governor apparently growing
Edited on Wed Sep-14-11 08:47 PM by malaise

<snip>
- A team of FBI agents executed search warrants at a home on the east side of Madison, Wisconsin, Wednesday.

In this Intelligence Report: The raid was on a former top aide to Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker in what appears to be an expanding corruption investigation.

Wednesday's raid is the latest carried out by federal authorities on several of Governor Scott Walker's top staffers, all state employees who recently resigned.

Even though the search warrant was executed on a home in the state capital of Madison, they were Milwaukee FBI agents. It appears that the federal investigation concerns Governor Walker's time as Milwaukee county executive.

"Saw about two or three more, four or five, then I saw agents getting out of the car and putting on their jackets, that's what identified it, FBI on the back of the jackets," said Madison resident Dale Reichers.

He's upset at the low price mentioned for being bought. The good news is the Feds are going after them. I hope it reaches Walker

Prices must have changed and he wasn't sure what they had gone to.

14. POLITICAL work on public time...I'm shocked, I tell you...shocked!
And delighted, too, of course...

...The grand-jury-like investigation appears to be targeting ex-employees of Governor Walker, with the focus being on their activities while working in Milwaukee County and suspicions they did political work on public time. Two previous federal raids on Walker staffers ended with the seizure of work computers.

There was no comment Wednesday from Governor Walker, who has retained legal counsel, although he claims not to have been personally contacted by federal agents.

Walker's campaign hired a former Milwaukee U.S. attorney to represent his interests if the investigation comes closer to him.

48. The position that Bush
called a "very important assignment." Hmmm, I wonder what was so important. Anyone think Bush was kidding when he said Walker was his cousin? I don't think he was.

Bush speech from 2002 (6th paragraph down on the link):
"I want to thank Scott Walker. I call him "cousin." After all, I'm George Walker Bush. At least I call him "cousin" so long as he's doing a good job. And they tell me he's doing a fine job. Scott, thank you for taking on a very important assignment as the Milwaukee county executive. And we wish you all the best."

9. There is an ongoing John Doe investigation
in Milwaukee that involves Walker's Milwaukee County Exec staff doing campaign related activities for him from their offices. No one can be certain that this is what today's warrants and searches was about.

17. Here is a little fresh dirt from Wispolitics.
A source with knowledge of the investigation said the FBI was involved for its expertise in computer analysis. The source also likened the investigation to the probe that led to charges against former legislative leaders Chuck Chvala, Scott Jensen, Brian Burke, Steve Foti and Bonnie Ladwig over caucus employees doing campaign work while in their state jobs. None of them are in the Legislature now, and some served time.

There is enough corruption among the Supreme Court to make Gov. Walker look like a boyscout.

42. What a blue moon event that would be.
Not that it hasn't ever, ever happened:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/374375.stm

Rwandan radio journalist has been charged with inciting mass killings during the 1994 genocide.

Valerie Bemeriki, a former employee of the independent Radio Mille Collines, was arrested in north-western Rwanda late last week, according to Justice Minister Jean de Dieu Mucyo.

"She will be prosecuted for genocide and crimes against humanity," the justice minister said.

Radio Mille Collines became notorious for its broadcasts which encouraged the slaughter of Tutsis and of Hutus who were sympathetic to the Tutsi cause.

The station was launched in 1993, backed by family members of the Hutu President Juvenal Habyarimana - whose death in a plane crash triggered the genocide.

"Do not kill those inyenzi (cockroaches) with a bullet - cut them to pieces with a machete" was one comment attributed to Ms Bemeriki.

....But it's pretty rare.
