A YOUNG music fan trapped in a coma for six years woke up when her mum took her to see rock star Bryan Adams live in concert.

Christiane Kittel, now 24, suffered a lung embolism when she was 18 and fell into a coma in 1997.

Her devoted parents, Karl-Gunther and Adelheid, kept a constant hospital bedside vigil.

And when they heard her hero Adams was doing a gig in their town of Regensburg, Germany, they took her along in a wheelchair. Adelheid, 53, said: "Christiane suddenly showed reactions. She opened her eyes, watched what was going on and was totally fascinated. Three times she called my name, Mama."

Dad Karl-Gunther, 55, added: "I have no doubt it was the concert that marked the turning point."

Her doctor Gerhard Weber confirmed the change. Not sure I see the connection with Obama, though, since I think he wasn't still in the room when Gabby opened her eyes. But as this story was from 2003, I wonder how Christiane is doing now. Well, I hope! Rather curious question, though, about who's attended a Bryan Adams concert and gone INTO a coma?
